Are these the sexy shrooms you've been looking for? NOT!
    #18973250 - 10/13/13 05:48 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

The usual, southern oregon coast, predominantly pine doug fir, salal, etc., close to sea level.  Another empty "lot" in my 'hood.

This one has concentric rings on the cap, cap is about 1.5" in diameter, I think the pics tell the rest of the story.  I dropped this in the bed of my truck, the stem popped off and immediately stained a bit red, by the time I got home stem and cap staining blue/green.  I believe I have a less mature and a more mature specimen.  The larger shroom appears to be bruising also, it's spore printing, the younger is in the frig and is still whole.

Gym?  These little guys were on a piece of pine I brought home.  Didn't notice the tiny pins all over 'till I'd already laid it down in my pile of stuff to schlep back.  It's sitting in a 3/4 barrel, can take more pics.  Left it all intact and handled it with kid gloves.  ;-)

"Shrub, 30-90 cm. Leaves 2.5-) 4-9 cm, sessile or amplexicaul, broadly ovate to ovate-oblong, obtuse or rounded to subapiculate or subacute, when crushed not smelling of goats."

"The initial quake was a 6.6 but fairly shallow. I felt it as a prolonged up and down vibration followed by a jolt forward and then to the left, like square dancing."

The first species is Lactarius rubrilacteus, the third time I have seen a request for this species today.

Learn to ID douglas fir, the needles are short and the cone in the first pic is really distinctive.  L. rubrulacteus only grows with douglas fir.

The last couple could be gyms, especially if the taste is bitter.  Hard to ID pins though, go back for some older ones.

I never noticed this. That is good to know.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Thanks, Alan, definitely doug fir, and I know the cones.  I'll go rough 'em up and see if I can get 'em to bleed dark red.  ;-)

I looked all over for some more mature specimens of the second one, they were only on this rotted branch which was about 5" in diameter, which I brought home.  I will check later in that spot/the rest of that branch.

If they don't turn out to be something interesting I'll return my chunk of branch, if it's worth keeping I'll try to figure out how to create a little nest where maybe the mycelium can spread.

Interesting possibility, have stuff bookmarked for when these grow up a bit.

Thanks!

Here's those two pins all grown up...  I think H. capnoides is out, these gills are definitely on the orange side.  I'm sporeprinting a smaller one, stipe is hollow and seems to have some amber colored granular stuff in it, but also a grub, so???  I suspect spores will be orange, I think I see some on the stipes.  I'm dying to know what these are, they were so cute!
