They're very reluctant to drop any spores for me!
I want to see some jet black spores that scream AGARICUS ANDREWII.
:P
Wishful thinking, probably...

Laccaria have white spores, you weren't by chance trying to get a print on white paper?  That might be why it seemed so reluctant to drop anything.

Nope, first try was on aluminum foil, now I've moved to clear plastic
Anything better suited for the task?
I'm a noob at anything not cubensis.
Actually, I'm a cubensis noob too.

Clear plastic and foil are both good choices.  Your mushroom is being stubborn.

Probably http://www.mushroomexpert.com/laccaria_ochropurpurea.html

Due to the chunky stature and purple color

I'll just entertain myself with fungi documentaries on youtube until I have a clear sporeprint, hopefully I can get an ID on this. I won't be able to hunt until I get an orange jacket, it's deer season around here and I don't fancy being shot. :/

EDIT: Ohh, found some info on it, mediocre edible, so maybe worth saving for a stew, I'll confirm a white spore print for Laccaria ochropurpurea, to make sure it isn't a cortinarius.

It is edible, but the stem is probably a bit tough.  Usually people just fry up the caps.

Ah!
Thanks so much for the ID Lhun and Alan!
Any good places to start searching for information on mycology as a hobby?
I was looking for books on amazon.

This forum, mushroomexpert.com and mushroomobserver.org are good resources.  Since you are in the usa, the keys on mushroomexpert will work well unless it is a psilocybin mushroom.

Thank you!
South Carolina isn't too friendly to many psilocybin mushroom hunters, at least up here in the upstate, so I'll stick to hunting for other specimens! (:
