Apache HTTP Web Server
    #18973111 - 10/13/13 05:17 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

I'm not sure I know exactly how Apache can benefit me.  Can I use Apache Tomcat as a free web server for hosting my new website? :takingnotes:

Yes, but you'll have to route the traffic to a web address to your physical computer; you could use e.g. DynDNS for that.

I use Tomcat for Subsonic...or rather, I use Subsonic, and it uses Tomcat. Pretty sweet application, by the way. That probably isn't what you want, it's for Java stuff. You want regular Apache or Nginx...

You want to host a website, and you're unsure if Apache, a web server, can benefit you? That's what it's for dawg!

If you're going to host a webserver out of your house, I'd highly suggest using a different computer for the webserver.

Chances are your router is running NAT, so it will require some tweaking to get it to work properly. Depending on the popularity of your site (honestly doesn't even matter if it's popular) security will need to be a big concern for you.

Hosting it out of your house isn't the best idea imo unless you take proper security measures.
