If a plate consisted of components:
15g/L Agar 10g/L Tryptone 10g/L NaCl 5g/L Yeast Extract 100μg/ml ampicillin
Would this be a suitable growth medium for the spores to begin growth into mycelium?

That would be good if you were in a college biology class trying to grow mammalian cells or something. You don't need all that for mushroom cultivation.
Most mushroom mycelium will do fine on a much more simple medium.
I'd recommend starting with a light malt extract mix. You can add yeast to this too if you would like.
For every liter of water you will want to add 20 grams of agar and 20 grams of malt extract.
The recipe is as follows if you want to add yeast too....
- 1000 ml H2O - 20 grams light malt extract - 20 grams agar powder - 2 grams yeast
That recipe should be just enough to pour 40 plates (2 sleeves)
If you just want to make 20 plates cut everything in half.
- 500 ml H2O - 10 grams light malt extract - 10 grams agar powder - 1 gram yeast
Keep in mind that the yeast is optional. It is nice to add but not necessary.

Ok, well let me rephrase. I have a freebie of the plates I mentioned, and have been having contamination problems and hoped that the addition of the Ampicillin in those plates would drastically reduce the contamination. I have the malt agar already, so is there perhaps anything that could be added to that to reduce the contamination? As much as I'd like that have a laminar flow hood, I don't have the resources or time for something like that just yet and as a consequence need other methods to combat contamination.
