Cannabis effecting visuals? * 1
    #18970629 - 10/13/13 12:08 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I was having a really good convo with my friends that I journey with. We've been going at the experience pretty hard the last year, started out watching the spirit molecule, discovered terrance McKenna (rip sir), even extracted some dimitria ourselves. We moved onto lucy and mush and everything has always been great. Always spent the day leading up to the journey not smoking, being productive cleaning up the house, playing some music, anything useful. When the time arrived we would sage the house "smudge", set up the crystals, and get some Shulman or shpongle or kuba, ect. My question is this, we all normally eat 5g dried of cubes, we've done it with cubes from ourselves, and from friends. One of my friends is extremely visual, very deep and very intimate experience for him, as well as the other two. However I feel like I find myself at a disadvantage almost, everytime for myself (and this includes launching with dimitria) I get light light light visuals during my journey. If anything its like a blindfold is over my eyes, and all I can do is just barely realize that there are visuals. But, with the lack of visuals I will say that my sense of my surroundings (physically and spiritually around me) is beautiful. Anytime a spirit or entity would approach to help me or guide me through, I would "hear" them as if they were right over my shoulder talking to me. Or even standing right before me but I cant keep eye contact, even tho I never even saw them to begin with. I know its not from fear of seeing something im not prepared for, and im almost certain our set and setting should really set me for it. We've had moments where we all lay out, trance out with our eyes closed, music playing softly, bodies still, all the while we travel further and further from our actual body. Feelings as if we're drifting away out into the unknown realms. so if its not the fear, and its not the doseage then what could it be? The 5g without question gets us to the level needed to reach the enlightenment and exploration we truly desire, and we try to be as respectful to the spirits as we possibly can, we are on such a level of comfort with all one another that we don't hesitate saying or doing anything around each other.

Could it be that I smoke cannabis? ive heard this before and I need to know some peoples thoughts. There are 4 of us in my circle including me, and we all smoke. What gets me, is that everyone aside from me has the extreme visuals, direct conversations they can remember pieces of, and their surroundings during the trip. Could the cannabis (and tobacco mix) be blocking me somehow?

I stopped smoking cannabis for about 4 or 5 days when my daughter was born, and the nights following after a few days I had the most visual dreams ive had in years. I don't remember anymore than maybe 3 dreams a year the past 5 years, until recently when my smoking habit really came to a near hault.

So my dreams came in loud and clear, but I still cant help but wonder if it would effect how I react with my mush or any other journey.

(ps) random thought, but they do say when you lose one of your senses, the others become heightened. If perhaps while journeying on mush or something, could it be I just naturally "go blind" and then my other senses fill in to help me get the experience I seek?

sorry to get off of your main point,  but id like to add that i also never dreamed or remembered any dreams while i was smoking weed...every time i would quit, i would also have very intense and vivid dreams. it was great.

ok, back to your main question. nearly every time i shroomed, i also smoked. i had very intense visuals while smoking and not smoking, so i cant confirm your suspicion. anybody else experience this?

thank you for posting about your dreams, it brings up some good questions for sure!

no one in my circle no. Ive mentioned it to other friends that journey themselves but ive never seen to come across anyone here so I figured this would be the place. The few times ive had very visual journeys are about 2 or 3 times with dimitria, one with luce, and a handful of the 5g mush although 1 of the best was still the 55g fresh I ate. Its as if I feel blind although im still capable of taking in the intent and general message of the journey by feel and sense.

i experience similar foggy visuals.
i am not a visual kind of person. it is hard for me to say, visualize an apple in my mind. i mean, i can imagine it's taste, smell, how it feels, but it takes me a lot of effort to see an image. i experience lots of non visual stimuli during my trips.
the most intense visuals i experienced were with dmt and changa, probably only real visuals i "saw", plus a couple of times on high dose mush.
i smoke weed daily and do not want to admit it is causing this fogginess
i think i have been like this even as a child, so i rather think it is just how i am
would like to hear opinions on this phenomena too

interesting....I know for a fact that if you slow down by half your normal smokeage then you will for sure have some very intensely vivid dreams. Good to know im not the only one that has this sense, I do get a little disappointed that my visuals are really a 1/10 type of situation, but the other 9/10, like I said def make up for the lack of visual by sense and just the aura of the mush, ect

WHen I smoke bud on shrooms, it doesn't really do anything that I notice, besides hits being really smooth so I end up doing lots. Acid on the other hand it potentiates a lot IME.

I agree.

Most psychedelics simply overpower the cannabis in my opinion... If you have some nice bubble hash or hash-oil (or any concentrate for that matter), that would be what you want to smoke if you're attempting to experience a bit of the cannabis high as well; it's the only way it even has a shot in my experience. But I also think that cannabis works synergistically with certain psychedelics, and can kick the intensity of the trip (and visuals) into overdrive... so tread lightly at first.

For me, the main utility of cannabis while tripping is to slightly cut anxiety. It provides a soothing, familiar smoke and can relax the body and mind somewhat I think, wich can be of tremendous aid if you start getting into some rough waters on a trip. I will have a few joints rolled, or a couple bowls packed and ready to go before I really hit the peak of a psychedelic experience and if the going gets rough all I have to do is reach out and grab the bowl or joint and take a few puffs... Note that this is not a fool proof method, and if you're the type who's prone to paranoia after smoking cannabis you should obviously forgo the herbal support. And there's also no guarantee that smoking cannabis during a period of anxiety/negativity/bad tripping is gonna alleviate it. For me personally its more of a comfort thing. I have had a life-long affinity with cannabis and have had an intense relationship with it on all levels; as a consumer, as a grower/propagator, as an enthusiast/connoisseur, as a maker of hashes/concentrates, and as somebody who's interested in the plant on a  botanical and scientific level and does tons of reading about it.

For me it's like a baby-blanket for tripping.

I had a hard time getting visuals.

I often say here that some people need to teach themselves how to have visuals.

Once you start having visuals, you should keep having them on future trips. It becomes easier to have visuals and have them on smaller doses.

Every tripper is different (duh). Some can trip very hard on low doses, some need more.

I have a high tolerance to shrooms and it sounds like you do too. My gal has a very low tolerance. She would on 2g get where your friends do on 5.

My point is, McKenna's suggestion that 5g is a heroic dose is not entirely accurate. Dosage is not one size fits all. So, if you are not getting visuals, step 1 is eat more. Once you Lear how to get visuals, you can likely get similar results on smaller doses.

As for pot, many here, myself included find it to really help one have visuals. I typically dose and then 20-30 minutes later, start smoking lots of pot. This really helps me kick a trip into gear and helps me get lasting visuals. Now, since mindset plays such a huge part in tripping, the very fact that you think pot hinders your ability to visualize may make it so. To get the most out of pot, take a break for a few days, a week or more is best especially if you toke from morning to night. Reset, have some dreams, then blast off. Taking a weed break is really quite easy.

Now, how to visualize: First, and this is key, obsessing over visuals will impede your ability to have them. If you are tripping in a group, and everybody but you is visualizing, you can find yourself in a jealous loop of trying to see what others are seeing. This can actually stunt the intensity of your trip. You waste your peak trying to do something you can't do.

I know this is a bit of a catch 22. The first step in trying to get visuals is to not obsessively try to visualize. So how do you do that?

Pot and open eyed meditation.

Once I start tripping, I find a safe place to toke outside during the daytime. Daytime and sunlight seem to help coax visuals out of people who have trouble visualizing due to the more vibrant colors and contrast between sun and shade. Find a natural setting. I think wooded areas are particularly good, since trees are alive, complex, three dimensional, and their leaves are in constant motion. They provide a shitload of visual stimulus which becomes very hard for a tripped out brain to process.

Now find a safe spot and meditate on the setting with your eyes open. Take a toke whenever you remember to. Let your eyes go into soft focus, instead of focusing on a specific spot, process everything you see at the same time. Keep toking. Focus on the sounds around you, birds, wind, the rustling of the leaves. Allow your brain to return to a simpler, pre-technological time. Allow yourself to be the animal, primate or caveman within. Soon you will notice that you will catch any sound that is out of the ordinary. An airplane, car, squirrel... etc. Keep soft focusing, keep toking. Soon enough the trees will start to do things they do not normally do. You are starting to visualize. Once this starts it is a great time for another toke. Allow the visuals to happen, once you have had visuals for 5-10 minutes, you can look away. Your visuals should be locked in.

You have from your come up to your peak to set them in. After the peak, it is mostly pointless to try to get visuals.

Once you learn to visualize, it becomes much simpler. For the most part, the amount you eat will determine the intensity of your visuals.

You can have similar results by closing your eyes and watching the closed eye visuals for a good amount of time. When you open your eyes, visuals often click in.

I hope this helps.

On shrooms and dmt, it makes me see much more pattern visuals, but doesn't affect spatial warping visuals. I've only smoked it on those two psychedelics

Hugging your mind, praying to survive, feeling the love of the hieroglyphs in the sky
We all need more love, and mainly less hate
Hate is the blind that covers the heart's eye
That makes the heart's eye cry
Locked deep away in the skies of our minds

It's all in the mind
