Right now, Republicans are basically holding the country economically hostage because they don't like a law that was already passed.

The house sent a compromise to the White house on Friday, but were rejected. It would have funded the government through November, but would have required talks about budget cuts (Why do we need budget cuts? It's not like we are spending a trillion dollars more than we take in every year.),reducing one of the ACA's proposed taxes on medical devices (As if taxing something would make it more expensive LMAO!),as well as concessions to put initiation of the ACA on hold for another year which is the same break Democrat leaders gave to corporations.

The White house turning this down is idiotic especially with all the political theatrics they have been pumping out over this "shut down" destroying our country. They get most of what they want, but that isn't enough. Obviously it is the Republicans who won't compromise.

The president shouldn't need to compromise on a law that was already fucking passed. If he did, then either side could just pull this bullshit every time there was a law they didn't like.

There have already been changes made to the law even though it was "already fucking passed". We elect representatives to make changes and run our government, the house take over by Repubs was a symptom of many peoples dissatisfaction with the passing of the ACA.

We are after all talking about this document.

I'm sure there couldn't be any improvements to be made in a document such as that.

this thread is a classic example of the low-info society that is controlled by our media.

The government takes in enough revenue each month, before it borrows or 'prints' any money each month to pay the interest on the debt (about 8% of the budget,) defense, mandatory programs. i.e. SS, retirements, etc.

The EXECUTIVE BRANCH--i.e. the President--sets priorities for spending.  If he decides the money available is to be used for things other than paying the national debt, that is his decision as The Executive of the country.  It is he alone who prioritizes the revenue and it is his decision who feels the pain.

There is no reason to default unless the president decides to default. Period.

Realize also that some programs included in the budget should have money in trust funds.  Social Security, and Medicare, retirement benefits for federal workers--all were funded by individual contribution.

Oh, there is no money in the SS fund, or retirement funds?  Thank the whore in the clown outfit with compulsive spending disorder who THE PEOPLE elected, who raided that piggy bank so he could load the pork trough up for his (put your favorite corporation/political entity/voting block here) enablers who help him get reelected.

They should take a chainsaw to the biggest bloated sectors of the federal governemnt--starting with defense--and trim huge sections of fat out.  It will be painful, but it is necessary but don't hold your breathe.  Everytime any program gets even the smallest cut people begin squealing.  Because everyone wants everything cut except THEIR program.  They should throw out every shyster politician who refuses to get with the progam and act responsibly.

Who is to blame?  Go take a look in the mirror.  THE PEOPLE are the ones who keep allowing these turds to get their hands on the country's piggy bank.

Note I haven't blamed anyone in particular, neither democrat nor republican. They are all equally worthless in politics.  I'm standng by for flaming daggers because there are those that think that an overbearing, bloated governent that promises you Utopia while they have their snoopers up your ass 24-7 is somehow the only answer to the Country's problems.

Is it?  It is the government elected by the people that have caused the problems in the first place.  Do you want more of the same?

Changes should be voted on, not forced by using the national budget as leverage. Just because the republicans were voted into office doesn't mean the populace wanted decisions made in this way. Every poll I've seen shows that Republicans have the lowest popularity right now that they've had in years, and that most people blame them exclusively for the shutdown -- as they should.
