Your yields will suck. Cubensis are not woodlovers and won't fruit well on wood.

That's good, because you likely won't be getting any gratification.

Its my logic that it's of little consequence to us, if fresh wood-chips by themselves, would fruit cubes badly. At some point those chips stop being chips and become compost. That is already happening. These chips can spawn some other material!
You can grow peyote faster than you can use Cubensis to turn wood into compost. If you plan on it fruiting on the compost that's been naturally made, well don't expect much from that either, since Cubensis are generally primary decomposers.

They were a bulk neglect outdoor spawn run.
Early on I thought the bed went to mold. It was looking ugly enough that I didn't visit for a long time. It appears better now.
Natural synergies seem to be occurring and despite being on wood it def seems like the cube is holding its own.
Unless we get some very strange weather I doubt anything will fruit before frost.
Maybe its time to add something. Composted poo/straw or something pasteurized...Maybe compost would help it winter-over.
This is a totally new territory of research for me!
It's not new to the world of mycology, and it's just a waste of time.

I'm sad you feel that way. There is a lot on here that isn't new. Besides some of us just need to verify things for ourselves.
Its already been cool to see such an extensive network form. It took no effort so it hasn't been a waste of time.
Nobody has argued that its is a good idea to spawn wood or that cubes will fruit well on it. AFOAF just found fresh woodchips and figured "why the hell not".
If you know these chips (whos surfaces are ridden with myc) can't be part of a future substrate matrix, please explain why.
Also "365" why do you think that composted horse poop spawned with these chips would fruit badly?

Well i lost my entire collection of samples stored in disstilled water when they froze and the test tubes broke. Fortunately, I've discovered that however bad a reputation these have for fruiting on wood the colony from OP is alive and well 2 years later and they have weathered a few -21' F winters. Perhaps this is a freak episode of luck but the patch is in a area where liquid cow poo is sprayed nearby uphill each year.
