You can have a nice indoor cactus collection if you have a window that gets a few hours of direct sun.

Well my climate is probably worst of all what you all have, still I collect cacti.

however, cannot get them as big and massive than most of people but small indoor collection, window what offers sunlight with HPS light(same what used to grow cannabis) and proper windowsill allow trichos grow about 1-2cm less diameter than in greenhouse. I use greenhouse only 2-3months to cacti in worst case in my climate there is chance of frosts like 10months in year, this summer of 2013 has been very different, early spring(never recorded so early) and also long fall.

My climate doesn't prevent me still to enjoy my hobby, there is a diagram from my climate:

And I can get indoor trichos like this and I use south windowsill with strong professional HPS light to give intensive light to plants. (also it helps humans when winter time there is no sun)

Lophophora and ariocarpus I keep as windowsill decoration plants.

One, two hours of HPS light on your skin, when there is no sun at all,
it will be great!I would do that, bat i would never imagine to leave in such climate
it scares me!:eek:

I love the sun!:sunny:

By the way, great garden!!!:smile::super:

Nothing but windowsill and morning sun.

well I have a little collection going, I have them outside during the warm months but I wish I could just keep them outside all year... I just would prefer to be able to plant my cacti in the ground....

yeah intelligent, you got one EXTREME climate... I don't mind the cold but that would be too much for me
