Intriguingly slimy looking Amanita. It isn't safe to eat.

How can you tell if they are edible or not

Some Amanitas are edible. Some will kill you horribly.

None should ever be eaten without being first identified.

It's inedible because it doesn't resemble any well-known edible Amanitas - the grisettes, which don't have a ring, the orange caps (sect. Caeseriae) or A. rubescens, which has a brown cap with warty veil remnants. Yours look like they may be in section Phallodiae which includes the Death Cap and other deadly species.

If you Google some pictures of A. muscaria you won't ever confuse it with this one.

Definitely not A. muscaria group.

The base is clearly bulbous with a defined collar.

something similar to:
this may be a possibility, but this is certainly not a concrete identifixation. That is said to be an eastern species.

I did slim research into Var Guessowii, looked somewhat identical. Not sure about the specific characteristics but this was identified on this forum a while ago as Guessowii

If you can't see the difference in the basal structure forms between those two examples then you should not be playing with Amanita. Well, you should in fact be playing more with Amanita, but don't mess around while you do.

With that said, it is true that basal structures of the sort your mushroom has have been seen in mushrooms of the muscaria group, I'm somewhat confident that yours are in the 'pertherinoid' group and I think something very similar to Amanita multisquamosa will be the ticket.

Don't mean to argue at all man i appreciate your input just trying to answer some questions for future references. So typically bulbous bases are not Muscaria, is the one you suggested Pantherina?

No problem. We're all here to talk mushrooms. It's why I come here

Firstly:
Quote:

So typically bulbous bases are not Muscaria

is a serious oversimplification. You're missing a lot here.

Second:
The species I suggesed your mushroom may be (at least is very similar to) is not Amanita pantherina. It is a completely seperate species in the group of species similar to pantherina. That is not the same thing.

To become confused and then educated about Amanita you could do worse than spending some time on http://www.amanitaceae.org.
