Psilocybe cubensis?
    #18970282 - 10/12/13 10:41 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Found them in barn with a lot of horses. I squeezed the stem and it stained blue, and the spore print is dark purple/violet. I'm pretty sure they're cubes, what do y'all say?

At first glance it looks like a cube. By any chance did you do a spore print?

I'm pretty sure those are not cubes but they do look active. Wait for positive ID. They are def not cubes though, I pick cubes twice a week here in florida.

They came out dark-purple, but they were just stains. How do I get a good spore print?

My advice would be to first use a glass pane, place the cap gill side down and cover with a bowl, cup, whatever( to keep drafts out) and wait 6 to 24 hours for a good print. Paper tends to soak up any fluid/juice that's on (or in) the shroom cap that tends to obscure a good print with staining so I usually use either foil or glass to make good prints.

I took a spore print and it's a dark purple/violet color. Good sign? Lol

That's what I thought: Cubes really are the easiest mushrooms to identify. I literally found them as soon as I parked into the barn.

Yes besides the photos, the obvious bluing, dark purple spore print and habitat specific location leave no doubt. :awesomenod:
