Okay so I'm going to invest in a food dehydrator. I found this one on ebay, and way wondering if it would work for drying my mushies?

Thanks for the help!

Check out second hand stores. You can find them for under $5.

So just a quick question. How would you guys store some fruits for about a week until my dehydrator arrives? I don't have any fruits actually picked at the moment, but I have some that will be ready in, I'm assuming, about 3 or 4 days. My dehydrator wont arrive until roughly 7-13 days. Sooooo... yea... any ideas?

You could put them in a paper bag and store them in the fridge and they might keep for about a week. I'd just dry them under a fan and finish them up in the dehydrator, if they still need it by the time the dehydrator arrives. I can't load your link for some reason, but mine was definitely worth it. I got mine from bed bath and beyond, you can probably just get it there if you haven't already bought it on online. They're always sending those coupons in the mail, yo.

I would get one with a higher temperature rating. That one goes up to 133. You may be surprised at how long it takes a full dehydrator to dry at 133. But, it's cheap.
I have a Nesco Snackmaster that goes to 165. It's awesome.

That will definitely work, but it looks identical to a Ronco and you can find a Ronco for less money. If you had a week, I would just try to fan dry it until it is close to crispy. Good job deciding to invest in a food dehyrdrator; it is the way to go if you're growing anything more than you can eat immediately. Good luck!

How long would I want to dehydrate my mushies with this dehydrator? As of right now, my mushies are 1 3/4 inches long and 3/4 inches wide. They are also really dense, or at least it seems like they are. I've used my finger and touched them (to check the moisture of the 'shrooms to see if they need more misting.) and they don't seem "mushy" at all. Here is a link to my other thread that has pics:
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18969583/vc/1#18969583
Based on this info and my pics, how long would you say it would take in this dehydrator?

You should have gone to Goodwill man. I'm not always right, but I never lie, and you could have definitely gotten a dehydrator on the low at your local second hand store.

Cheapest dehydrator I know of. You can make 5 of these for the cost of a cheap 'real' dehydrator (maybe more).

There's probably a little booklet that comes with it to tell you the various drying times and temperatures for each type of food. Just follow that. Mine says 95F for 2 hours, then crank it to 125 until it's dry, which is probably an additional 4-6 hours depending on how humid it is and the density of the fungus.

You could buy litteraly 6 or 7 nescos that will do the same thing, in the same amount of time, for that price.
No one needs a $300 dehydrator for drying mushrooms when a $30 one works just fine.

You could buy 6 or 7 thrift shop dehydrators for every Nesco, of which you could buy 6 or 7 compared to an Excalibur.
Yes, that math equals out to be 1 thrift shop dehydrator to 30+ Excaliburs. If you were wondering.
