I think it works better. It gets out all that nasty mold shit out of the straw. Just have to be totally sterile. And Lil kussh you are telling me to shut up but if you havent noticed you talk the most here and are the most annoying. You shouldnt reply to every single post I find it quite pathetic allong with other members. Respond with help not stupid comments.

You are fine I always pc my straw. I used to get contams otherwise. In my experience proper moisture content and in a spawn bag is the only way to go after cooking. I suppose pasturizing works but maybe it needs to be more open to the atmosphere so the mycelium grows faster and benefical bact help keep other molds away. But I dont know I always sterilize my substrate even if its straw grain manure or whatever. I find better sucess doing this but then I used to use flowhoods and everything else. Every time I tried pasturising (about 4times) I was contaminated by the green and some funky other colors. I rather work with something I know is sterile. I usually get a 100% sucess that way. Also that eliminates taking the seeds out of hay and why would you want to its just more nutrient. I find the problem wih straw is people making the colonized layer to thin during casing. The finer the shredding the thinner you can make your mycelium mat. The longer the shreds means more air space meaning you have to compensate with a thicker mycelium mat. Although straw is my all time favorite medium it takes a little time to perfect. The reason its my favorite it produces fruit so large that the only other way to get them that big is dung. Dung stinks being pc'd so straw is the top of my list. However I have noticed better yeilds off of grain probably because of the amount of nutrient and compactness of the substrate. Better yields dont mean bigger fruits just fuller flushs and generally smaller fruits but way more of them. Also I find straw doesnt hold enough moisture to produce as many flushs as grain, not that that is a good thing you are just inviting contams. Basicly what Im tring to say is grain is good for bulk and straw is decent but more for those that want wolrd record size mushrooms. Also straw is more work but If your going for personal I would go for straw it just produces those crazy mushies that look like they are on steroids. I personally feel straw produces more potent mushies also but that is subjective.

If it is truely sterile, it will remain sterile for as long as it remains sealed.

There isn't anything that you're not "supposed" to do.

You do one thing, something happens, if you do something else, then something else will happen.

I've tried PCing straw. It will work, but the quantity and quality of shrooms produced is much more pronounced with pasturizing with lime/chlorine like the teks say. I have found if you follow the teks that the grow monsters on these boards set forth for our knowlege, you'll have better yeilds and less contams. Besides, I've also experienced bacterial blooms with sterilizing straw (using pc) that weren't pretty.
LiL KuSsh really is one of the best around, and has offered MUCH help to lots of others, so BACK OFF!! and lets just concentrate on having a fun hobby!
