Beginner Guitarist Need Some Songs

Alright consider this, I've just started learning how to play guitar, I can barely hold a rhythm and I suck in general, the only chords that I know are the major and minor chords along with a few odd balls. I know how to play barre chords but I'm not very good at them yet and I only know one scale although I have a few more written down to learn such as the blues scale and I have a bunch of chords that I'm learning. Anywho...these are my favorite bands, what songs can I learn by them to get me started? REMEMBER, only songs with major and minor chords in them please.
Eric Clapton Judas Priest AC/DC Queen KISS Eagles Led Zeppelin Deep Purple Thin Lizzy ZZ Topp Lynyrd Skynyrd Pink Floyd Steve Miller Band The Beatles Black Sabbath Jethro Tull Jimi Hendrix Alice Cooper The Doors The Rolling Stones Ted Nugent Boston Rush Aerosmith The Allman Brothers Blue Öyster Cult The Sex Pistols The Ramones Grateful Dead Van Halen The Who Fleetwood Mac Tom Petty Metallica Bob Dylan Motley Crüe Johnny Cash Bon Jovi Guns N Roses Red Hot Chili Peppers Bob Seger Bon Jovi Doobie Brothers Cream Steppenwolf Foreigner Scorpions GT& The Destroyers Nirvana Beastie Boys Poison

I don't have much advice as far as individual songs to learn, but what you can do is just... "oh that song sounds cool and simple enough" then look up a guitar tab, which are fairly easy to read and understand.
Even if you can't learn a whole song, or certain segments seem difficult, you can learn it and play in super slow motion. Gradually as the notes become more familiar to you, you can speed it up and you will improve.
When I first started playing, I learned a lot of metal type songs over the time frame of 1-2 years. Now, I find it better to just mess around and see what I can make myself. I find that improvising randomness can be just as beneficial as learning full songs

Thanks, ill try that.
I have a hard time reading TABs though. Every is backwards or upside down to me. haha. Even though I know how to read it, I naturally flip it around and play stuff backwards or upside down chords, it's annoying. Lol

As a beginner it's crucial that you constantly focus on establishing your technique before it gets much more difficult to refine. While songs are fun to play, be thinking long-term and keep asking yourself questions like "does this sound good? how could it sound better? how about my technique?"
Ultimately, the quality of your playing will come down to how often you play things correctly, and that means slowing down and focusing on removing each and every obstacle. It'll be instinct to play as fast as you can but nothing will sound good until you can first play it slower and correctly.
I honestly wouldn't mind going back and being where you are again (skill-wise). It's a thoroughly enjoyable process to watch yourself improve at something so fun and meaningful

I know exactly what you mean. After playing for 5-6 years, it's pretty difficult to change the way I play, and difficult to improve in general. I make mistakes all the time but I think if I learned better techniques with rhythm and picking, I'd be a much better guitarist overall.

Santana is really good for beginners because his stuff is really intuitive. Zep - Zeppelin is really good because people who weren't absolute and total dipshits tabbed out their stuff - that is - people who cared. Try like Achilles Last Stand. Other things like Rain Song and Friends use different tuning which is also lots of fun.
Don't break up Buddy, I have been playing guitar for three years and I totally can't play a whole song yet. (But I started old - age 45) Give it time.
Looking at your list again - The Eagles for sure - Witchy Woman is such a great song to play. Hotel - try em all. I use Ultimate Guitar tabs because they have the biggest and best selection, but there's another tab site called e-chords which has a neat feature in that you can choose to have a pop-out chords in the song thing which makes it easy to play along.
Also Frampton like Do You Feel. These are all very intuitive songs. They sound and feel natural to play - they aren't guitar masturbating scale diddling morons like so many musicians nowdays.

if you know how to torrent, you can download a program called Guitar Pro. It's basically a program people use to tab out songs using electronic type sounds. The program plays the song in electronic form while showing the guitar tabs on the screen so that you can play along while reading the tab.
I find it quite nice because it allows for perfect timing and anything that is unclear becomes easier to follow.

I won't be givin it up. It's too much fun. I find it hard to believe that you can't play at least one song. I just learned my first song today and of course I can't play it very accurately BUT I know how and I can play it decently. I'm sure you can play some of the simpler ones at least, haha.
And I'll check out guitar pro, thanks!

Well that's the thing isn't it? We each have what we feel is 'playing a song.' I am not interested in campfire tunes. I am interested in things like 'Wind Cries Mary,' Witchy Woman,' and more sophisticated stuff. Thing is, I play just for myself, so I am not inclined to perfect a song just for other people. I switch around based on my mood. One day I study funk style, another reggae or bossa nova, I spent awhile learning Blues scale in C, some days fingerpicking, some days I fee like power chording out..... lots of different things to do with guitar.

I am not worried about playing the perfect either but I do want them to sound good. I'm also interested in bring an actual guitarist and not just learning a few campfire songs. I want the guitar to be a part of me, not just something I pick up and play to impress people. I'm really falling in love with guitar and I'm hungry for knowledge, I want to learn as much as I can. I just feel like right now it's important for me to learn a few songs because I'm at that stage in my development. I can't just jam like you can yet so I want to play something to become better skill wise.
I also practice scales, fingerpicking ect but I'm literally less than a month in and I feel like I should at least learn a few camp fire tunes to help me with basic rhythm, changing chords, and fretting properly since I'm on acoustic for now. I want an electric down the road but for now I love acoustic.

You can take this alot of different ways Grey-morph the guitar is a diverse instrument.
I agree with the guy saying to focus on your technique because if you don't you may develop bad habits that are hard to unlearn later on. Though if you want some campfire songs under your belt in the meantime no'one can stop you, the guitar is there for you to do what you want.
Depending on what you want to learn you will need a different approach to the guitar and trying to learn to many styles at the same time might actually retard your technique. I recommend either stick to finger picking or use a pick and develop one of them first before trying to do both.
Not all music has roots in classical here is a style that has its own set of rules entirely based off the rhythm's.

Well Learning songs is a good way to practice technique like you initially wanted as you will have to break thing up and learn them in sections anyway.
I think i jumped the gun, what i was trying to get across is to not get tempted into playing to many different styles in the beginning until you are confident in one or dare I say master it , if that makes sense? That being said its all relative and some styles do compliment each other much like the Rock/metal you have listed.
Based off your initial list , if you wana have some fun playing some relativly easy rhythems this is my suggestion, Powercords simple easy and sound great.
These are a large basis of the rhythm construction when it comes to bands like Sabbath, Nirvana , Metallica and metal in general.
Nirvana i think that would be a good start , Metallica also but you might have to limit yourself to the riffs as the solos will be to difficult to execute. Hmm check these ones out Paranoid by sabbath, teen spirit by Nirvana i don't know about Metallica maybe something off the black album.
Technique is not just about playing chords or scales rather than how you play them , for instance if you want to play metal you will have to learn palm muting techniques along with some faster picking techniques.

Remember that I'm learning acoustic and some stuff just doesn't sound right on acoustic. Eapeciay powerchords, IMO, maybe in a song or with a band that might change but by themselves they sound ugly on acoustic. I think I'd like to learn some Folk then rock then metal, I guess.

Listen, buy Hal Leonard's Guitar Method 3 in 1 book. It's good. Go through it at a decent clip. Then go through it again. It will give you basics of music theory, exercises and how to read. Then after that in a year, say, get Berklee Press - A Complete Method for Guitar. Or start with that. I think you should do it the way I suggested though. At the same time buy chord books from your favorite bands. I got Beatles (Complete), Bowie, Led Zep, Elton John, The Who, Nirvana, and just recently The Doors and Jimi Hendrix. (Chord Books) This will teach you not just chords in a vacuum but in context. Concurrently try some tabs. Take some lessons. Do a bit of this and a bit of that. Don't get hung up on perfecting some minor thing. For the first few years get a smattering of a lot of things. Try out Bossa Nova chord progressions. Funk rhythm styles, drop tune and play some Jimi Page. Metal sounds just as good on an acoustic. I switch back and forth between a couple electrics and acoustic just to get various feelings for the music. Right now it's about you getting the big picture and becoming coordinated.

i never really got into the theory portion of it until recently honestly (playing roughly 6 years) and boy can i tell you i wish i got into it sooner! Its advanced my playing many times beyond what i could do just noodling around. But how i learned for the majority of my time playing was just learning songs that were just above my skill level, sure you suck at first but once you can play it well you've learned something new!
heres a good song to strive for, not too difficult and very fun to play (especially if you can sing)
and disregard the intro solo as easy haha i meant the actual song is easy

Is musical theory something that I can learn early on or should I get a couple months experience first? I've tried reading some shit and it just seems like quantum physics and I don't get a damn thing. Do I need to train my ear more and jam with folks before I can understand any of it? I just seems over my head at this point.
