stones in incubator?
    #18969395 - 10/12/13 06:28 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Recently I ordered some ATL#7 spores and am planning on growing some stones but the only problem I see is that I have no control over the temperatures where I stay. I know it's best if you don't shake the stone jars for speedier colonization so I was planning on using a tub in tub incubator at about 74 degrees so it doesn't stall out and I was wandering if this would cause any problems for the growth of stones?

I incubate all my jars in a tub-in-tub at 78F

You'll find stones to be fairly hardy.  Some folks also recommend letting them have some light.  You don't have to get too fancy with your incubator.  I kept over 20 quart jars in a broken dishwasher for months before I harvested them.  74 is a good temp, I would probably guess that maybe a little higher could be better 76-78.

Ok thanks for the help I've been reading truffle teks and I haven't seen any one state whether stones needed light to form and I was afraid a tub in tub incubator wouldn't allow enough light to make it through the 2 tubs. Has anyone had any problems with this or is light not even near the top of the list of what stones need to form?

My stones formed fine in my incubator. The only light they got was when I opened the top every few days to check on them
