And if ye harm none, do as ye will
    #1896879 - 09/09/03 01:37 AM (20 years, 6 months ago)

Let us discuss this pagan belief/law.

Basically that free will should be unhindered, unless your free will interferes with someone else's. I think that's a law to live by.

Thoughts?

I went to a wiccain coven... I think its a beautiful thing, all nature religions... didnt phase me that the high priest looked strikingly similar to lucifer...he was a very nice guy... I saw him at one of our hindu temple functions as well... really good people!

I think that in this world, its very hard not to harm anyone with all of our conditioning of mental judgments, assessments... reaction, fear... greed, selfishness...

so "An ye harm none, do as ye will".... that must also apply to not standing around while others are being harmed also, dont you think?

If thats the case, it sums up most all religous teachings... Help the suffering, act with compassion.

On it's basis, it sounds fine.

However, everyone's definition of what constitutes harm is different, which is where the problem lies. Ask prohibitionists how you harm society by sparking up a doobie at home while playing your guitar and they will come up with a dozen "reasons".

Can a one night stand be emotionally harmful even if both parties agree? What if one party is totally drunk and not truly capable of making decisions? What if it is a 35 y.o. man with a 10 y.o. consenting girl? How about a 30 y.o. man with a 13 y.o. girl? 25 and 16? Where do you draw the line?

if people weren't totally out for themselves then yeah. if everyone had the mindset of helping others, not for obligation, but just because it pleases them to do so. you know a genuine love for everyone.

now free will, what does that mean to you? just curious on your definition is. does that mean you get to live wherever you want? if so say some other person doesn't want you to be where you want to be. are you interfering with his free will? if you then move, is your free will being hindered?

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

i think discrimination is a god given inherent tool to utilize.

so often people have beleifs, and virtues, but do not live by them...these compromises cause us to get lost

but I think if you take the saying in its most positive context...there is alot of truth in it

An ye harm none, do what ye will ---- if your helping others, do it in whatever method necessary to continue your positive actions

thats what i hear.

Smoking a joint at home doesn't interfere with anyone's free will. The prohibitionists are the ones interfering with free will.

Hmm... your second question made me think. That's certainly a grey area, and would require more knowledge of the particular circumstances. I think that in general, age differences mean little if both parties are able to understand what they are doing. But where do you draw the line? I don't know. The general rule would be to not interfere with the free will of others.. there are many cases where the line is clear-cut... but then there are also some grey areas. In which case require wise discretion, on a case-by-case basis.

My definition of Free Will is doing as you choose. Yes, you get to live wherever you want, as long as it's not interfering with someone else's free will (say.. breaking into their house and claiming it your own).. if the person tries to prevent you from moving into their area, then yes they are interfering with your free will. No one owns the Earth.

The prohibitionists are the ones interfering with free will.

That is your perspective and mine, but not theirs. This is important to be understood.

But from an objective position it becomes clear.

Who is the one interfering with free will?

The person sitting at home, smoking a plant, minding their own business?

Or the person who is trying to put that person in a cage, because they chose to exercise their free will?

Obviously there will be many instances of free will interference, in this current 3d reality. The person interfering with the free will knows exactly what they are doing. Power through manipulation and control. Interference of free will.

yea yea the battle of wills.

But free-will is a very interesting topic of spirituality... the hindu spirituality is made up of a deity, and his arms or one of them at least is called Jyotish, or the science of light... (a.k.a. Vedic-Astrology) and I have heard my pops give talks on life that just blow me away... I have seen its accuracy demonstrated alot over the years he has been studying...

free will
destiny
gods grace

I think they all play an important roll

I also beleive those three things are the key to the fifth dimension.

Yes indeed, and it fits nicely, seeing as to how the 5th dimension is pure light and energy and creation. You interfere with free will in such a place, well.. you better be prepared for the instant consequences.

I read a few minutes ago a word which in Hindustani means 5th dimension - the space that allows everything to exist... Akasha... thats what I mean by the key to the fifth...

some scientists theorize that there were 10-25 dimensions when the earth was created... whatever the hell that means

what would a 6th 7th and 9th dimension be like?> ::scraches head::

The 12th is "Christ Consciousness"

We can't comprehend that high yet. When you're in the 5th, you'll be able to comprehend the 6th and 7th much easier. For now, we have to focus on what we have nearby.. the 4th and 5th.

like most wicca things that harm none stuff is a load of wishy washy bullshit. gardner was a fool. i hate wiccans. die wiccans die. no one ever got anywhere by harming none. mcdonalds and starbucks harm lots of people and look how rich they are!

www.whywiccanssuck.com has some good points but doesnt completely cover why wiccans should be cleansed from the gene pool.

harm who ever ye like, headbutt wiccans

(sorry for ranting but wiccans make me very angry, bloodlust angry)
