Aquarium Heater Fire Prevention

Hey guys,
Quick questions: Some one who has done this and had it work with no burning. Are the suction cups on the submersible heater enough to keep it from floating up burning the top rubbermaid? I mean can they come loose and start a fire or burn up the container? Should I use a metal weight or has the suction cups worked fine for you? Also it's 100 watts with hi and lo settings. Is that enough wattage? I'm sure it's more than enough.

Slip a steel U bolt over the heater so it stays pressed flat to the base of the tub so there's the water as "buffer" to the above tub. No hot zone potential to jars in top tub base.

To prevent the base of the water holding tub from possibly scorching, lay in a piece of cement sheet.

All up, the suction caps that come with heaters seldom hold for long, be it aquariums or hydro IME.

Finally, 100w is enough. I can't see how you'd have greater than a 50lt water volume esp. as the inner tub won't allow total fill of the water tub.

Generally speaking, in aquariums (because you don't want a "hot zone" on fish) it's 1 watt to each lt. But for heating purposes, 2:1 is better (2 watt to every lt)...same applies too in hydro. Less strain on the heater in the long run, sounds like you're fine.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will be using the U bolt since I have some handy already.
