My boyfriend, my two friends and I all decided to have a summer camping “trip” with just the four of us. We went in early August of 2013 to Rock City State Forest in New York. We brought everything we needed for a fun three days: food, a huge tent, a map, an ounce of nice cannabis sativa, a bottle of rum, and lots of water.
For a bit of history and background, I am 18, male, 5'10", and weigh about 150 pounds. This would be my first time using LSD, and I was very excited to give it a try after trying psilocybin mushrooms and 2C-E. My two friends C-Lo and P have tripped many times before on various common substances. My boyfriend, however, had never tripped before, and even after my recommendation to try mushrooms first he assured me that he was comfortable with trying LSD. I figured he seemed ready, and thankfully I was right!
The first night, our other friend A came down to hang out and drink with us. We asked us if he had any blotters on him, and he was nice enough to sell us four blotters of pretty pure LSD.
The second day, the four of us (Me, my boyfriend F, C-Lo, and P) smoked a bowl when we woke up, and had breakfast. After a light breakfast, we all took one dose each(~100ug each), and headed up a trail for a nice hike.
The hike took us up a steep incline to a beautiful view over the hills and trees of the park. IT was a beautiful scene, and we smoked another bowl on a large rock we found. We began to notice slight hints that the LSD was kicking in. C-Lo and I noticed that the conglomerate sediment in the rock we were sitting on were moving a bit, and I started to feel that familiar wobbly body high I get while tripping. We actually had strayed off the path and gotten lost, as we had followed a water runoff instead of the (very misleading) trail. We turned back and headed back to the campsite, while we discussed how climbing up the trail was like a metaphor for the time we had to wait for the LSD to kick in. Thus, we named it “Metaphor Mountain!”
When we got back to the campsite, we sat at the picnic table at our campsite and we all got to the peak of the effects. The fire pit we had used the night before wiggled, and I saw subtle moving patterns in the ground. The moss growing on the picnic table was twisting and warping around itself, and the table seemed to be breathing and bending. I helped reassure my boyfriend, who was getting a bit overwhelmed with the experience, and we all insisted that he eat part of a bagel. After eating a bit, F felt much better and we continued to talk about what we were seeing and experiencing. I looked across the campsite(see picture below) and saw the trees on the other side of the open field start to wobble, and suddenly the entire scene I was looking at rotated completely on its side, and I was astonished by the amazing visual distortions I was seeing. The colors of everything around me seemed so bright and vivid, and being with my boyfriend and two best friends was very comforting. We all joked, laughed, and played cards as we enjoyed music from The Grateful Dead, Phish, Keller Williams, Boards of Canada, The Doors, and more Phish.

As we migrated to the large tent, F and I started to color with colored pencils a bit as C-Lo and P smoked a cigarette. They came into the tent with us, and we all played more cards. I started to notice that the light reflecting off of our sleeping bags was lifting into the air and floating away, with echoing lights following it. IT was an interesting phenomenon, and the cards in my hands seemed to bend and play with my eyes too.
Suddenly, we all heard a noise, and something completely unexpected happened…
After having the entire campsite to ourselves, a trailer drives into our campsite and starts setting up camp right across the site from us, barely 100 feet from where we were. We were all peaking, and did not want to leave the tent and freak our the family that came for a vacation… we also noticed that they had thick southern accents, so we were worried about the possibilities of upsetting very conservative campers. Soon it became funny to us, as we all laughed at the irony that a southern family would come into our campsite while we were all tripping! We eventually got over it, minded our own business, and went back outside to play more cards and chat. That night when it got dark, the father from the family ended up approaching our campsite to have a friendly talk, and we learned that he was actually quite nice! He shared “a joint and a half” with us that he “rolled in secrecy to hide it from the wife and kids, ya’ know?” He was a funny guy, and after he left F started playing with his high powered green laser. We pointed it in the stream near our campsite and tripped out; P brought out his spinning LED rave toy too, and we enjoyed the visual stimulation of colors and lights.
As the night grew late, we all retired and saw the last of our subtle hallucinations. P seemed to trip a few hours longer than we did, which led us to believe that he had a stronger blotter. (His was different than the three that C-Lo, F and I took)
We all fell asleep to ambient music and the sounds of the beautiful forest, and had a great camping weekend altogether. It was very fun, and my first time with LSD was a very exciting experience! I strengthened bonds with my boyfriend, and my two good friends by tripping with them, and none of us will forget that interesting, eventful, and humorous camping “trip.”
