Why Are We Here On this Earth?

Someone tell me, why are we here? What's the point? I see no compelling reason for existence here.
And this true. The only reason I see is to procreate....and then the offspring will wonder why they are here...and procreate.....

We existed before this life...we learn lessons during life, well some of us do...then when you exit this Reality you return to that place.
You arent a physical body with a mind/soul...you are a mind/soul with a physical body.
Funny things going on out there in the nexus of Reality.

The meaning is: for consciousness, god, spirit, whatever you want to call the invisible thing that makes our heart beat, the world turn, the sun shine.. to experience itself in as many forms and ways as it possibly can.

There is no reason for any event to happen, rather than trying to derive one single reason for yours, and the existence of those around you I believe that it is up to the individual to come up with their own purpose for their own life.

think of earth as a computer, and us humans as software engineers. we are here to find all the bugs on earth and debugg them. in order to make the computer software more stable. we are like white blood cells who defend the body against infectious diseases. we are here to live, learn, and grow, to be conscious and to spread consciousness. we are unconsciousness, like dark matter that is recycled and reused, just like a gold digger digs for gold in the mists of sand, so are we scooped from a handful of dirt and placed into a pan, to be shaken with water so that only what is good remains.

To experience, love, evolve, transcend. To be... and to expand, continuously. Then to die and repeat cycles like the rest of the universe. or to move on to the next levels. Choice is yours to live life how you wish, within the principles of the universe. Basically whatever brings you joy

It's like what Carl Sagan once said "We are a way for the cosmos to know itself"...Or at least we are a way for the cosmos for to talk with itself.
We need also to remember : mankind is a secondary player in a bigger comedy...It's important to don't take ourselves too seriously...

I'm here to at least try to come up with a more original reason than this one.

We are only here on earth coz there are no other planets in this universe that can support our needs (air, water ,weed, internet and so on). In say 200 years time there will be next to no life on earth and most will live in space stations like on WALL-E .

We are here for the same reason a tree is here. To grow.

So what about for all the asexual beings?
Sex isn't the meaning of life, it's a consequence of it as with everything else. There is no universal meaning, or point, or goal. Life is absurd. It bears nothing but opportunities to explore it's absurdities

the meaning of life is to build a castle with a mot around it and have sharks with laser beams attached to there heads and inside the castle you have all your wife's and all the beer you could ever drink and if any one try's to get in you blast they ass for trespassing. and in side the castle you can do all the meditating and shrooms and LSD and PCP and Lsa and mescaline eat psychedelic fish and lick psychedelic frogs and drink ayawasccccccckkaaaaaa! and have orgies with clean women.

The meaning to life is simple. It's an evolutionary stage of the universe. First the big bang, then matter, then stars and planets and then life. The step after, I don't know

"Man discovers that he is nothing else than evolution become conscious of itself, to borrow Julian Huxley's striking expression. It seems to me that our modern minds (because and inasmuch as they are modern) will never find rest until they settle down to this view. On this summit and on this summit alone are repose and illumination waiting for us.β Teilhard de Chardin, βThe Phenomenon of Manβ
From my own cannon (PDF in my signature):
"I was made acutely aware that the entire purpose of the existence of the Universe was Love. The meaning of life was revealed as the contemplation and understanding of our connection to All things; the purpose of life is to Love β to realize Oneness."
Paradoxically, we also exist for no reason at all.

It used to be to fart and help sustain the atmosphere, but then we went overboard with the CO2.
So, since becoming completely self-aware (more or less), the primary goal is to evolve and learn as much as we can so that we can have a seat on the galactic council.
Problem is the Asari have secret Prothean technology they've been hiding for thousands of years.
Other humanoid races either fear us or are completely fascinated with our pragmatism. This, of course, excludes the southern US states, the middle east, and Haiti, which are simply a lost cause for humanity.
By 2058 we should be able to reach Sector Z. This is assuming we discover element zero in time.

i like to adopt this view. i don't think it's THE point. I don't think there is a point. but i think it's the lesson that should be taken out of every experience... that the very basis of your being is to contribute to the diverse experiences of life. that all things are just experiences and ultimately bear no consequence. i feel like this recognition gives us the power to see things for the full spectrum of beauty that they really are rather than the black and white perspectives we grow up with

We are here because we have the chance to be here. We lucked out to not only be born on a floating rock suitable for life, but to be conscious too. What else more of a reason do you want? Enjoy your life, all its up and downs, because when youre dead theres no sunrises or sets, no wind to blow through your hair, sensations to feel, things to see.

this can only go two ways spiral into a religious debate or come to agreement that we are just living and living to strive and spread are seed. in the end money never meant any thing more then the ability to please a persons ego. and to feed and keep the comfortable in a warm home. if we had no money we would sow are own seeds and feed are one fire. its not like that you have to be asset to the community , tribe, block, city ,state,FAMILY .if you are you find peace in your self. but if your just dragging along and not trying your best to accomplish a thing or two . then yea the meaning of life will feel opposite to neal.

I see your head is not simply for decoration. The one and true meaning of life is to have sex preferably with a multitude of hot women.
Everything else in life is secondary to having sex.
One could argue that from a philosophical perspective the human brain is a device that helps the universe realize itself.

A lot of good answers here.
Nothing makes any sense and nothing will ultimately appeal to you in any deep sense that is lasting until you evolve your consciousness.
I see no other fulfilling venture than to expand, evolve, experiment with consciousness.
How do you evolve consciousness? Learn how to operate your brain. Also, take mushrooms and just investigate your surroundings, your brain will feed on the new information.
Keep a very open mind and try to inform yourself about what you're experiencing all the time.
What you really want to aim for first is a pristine reflection of everything you do now. Try meditation for quality-of-consciousness enhancement. It makes the brain more active even when not meditating. Your cognition is pretty much all that's occurring so if it's occurring better you will have a more interesting picture of reality.
Then you will wonder what you were bitching about.
(you were bitching about your present cognition)

^Important edit: The picture above is fuckin epic.
Cause Heaven's frickin' boring!
Just kidding. Man its been awhile since Ive been here. So weird to be back, and nothings changed! Whoooooooaaaaa!
Purpose of life? I think its a lifetime learning experience, that we repeat (life then death then life again) until we learn and experience every possible thing in the world (which is impossible, so it repeats forever!). If you didnt learn anything along the way, then you aint living right baby! Could be to learn fundamental things about the Universe, like E=MC2, or maybe to learn about human behaviour, like betrayal, friendship or love.
I think of all life on Earth as like one of those ant farms. In the end, the ants cant really go anywhere beyond there enclosed farm, but its fun to watch them dig, build and do whatever they like in their time! Living things are like that, I think. No point to it, but its beautiful to watch them live out their lives and continue the lifecycle to the next generation.
Personally, I think natural psychedelics like shrooms have a specific purpose on Earth for Humans. Maybe to enlighten us about something, or a encrypted code that must be decoded by the experience of the brain. Maybe to show us a Universe beyond this one. Maybe to show a window into the afterlife. Could be so many things.
Plus, man-made drugs are awwwwweeesssoooomeeee

I'd say that to assume, because all we can is assume, that we are her to fuck is accurate but perspective. In another, and this is coming from a non relgious dude here, we may be here to create something more than we are. In that sense we are God, the creator. That's what religion is all about. Loving yourself and everything around you. To be at peace. We are here because we are God and in that sense, eternal. Religion had it right a long time ago, it's corruption, language, and good drugs that makes leaves some of them looking pretty stupid.
