"Man discovers that he is nothing else than evolution become conscious of itself, to borrow Julian Huxley's striking expression. It seems to me that our modern minds (because and inasmuch as they are modern) will never find rest until they settle down to this view. On this summit and on this summit alone are repose and illumination waiting for us.” Teilhard de Chardin, ‘The Phenomenon of Man’

From my own cannon (PDF in my signature):

"I was made acutely aware that the entire purpose of the existence of the Universe was Love. The meaning of life was revealed as the contemplation and understanding of our connection to All things; the purpose of life is to Love – to realize Oneness."

Paradoxically, we also exist for no reason at all.

It used to be to fart and help sustain the atmosphere, but then we went overboard with the CO2.

So, since becoming completely self-aware (more or less), the primary goal is to evolve and learn as much as we can so that we can have a seat on the galactic council.

Problem is the Asari have secret Prothean technology they've been hiding for thousands of years.

Other humanoid races either fear us or are completely fascinated with our pragmatism.  This, of course, excludes the southern US states, the middle east, and Haiti, which are simply a lost cause for humanity.

By 2058 we should be able to reach Sector Z.  This is assuming we discover element zero in time.

We are made of chemicals of infinity, so right there tells you EVERYTHING will turn out alright.

Something there is mysteriously formed,
Existing before Heaven and Earth,
Silent, still, standing alone, unchanging,
All-pervading, unfailing,
I do not know its name; I call it tao.
If forced to give it a name, I call it
Great (ta). Being great, it flows out;
Flowing out means far-reaching;
Being far-reaching, it is said to return.

It's just a shot away..

i like to adopt this view. i don't think it's THE point. I don't think there is a point. but i think it's the lesson that should be taken out of every experience... that the very basis of your being is to contribute to the diverse experiences of life. that all things are just experiences and ultimately bear no consequence. i feel like this recognition gives us the power to see things for the full spectrum of beauty that they really are rather than the black and white perspectives we grow up with

There is no reason that we are here, we just are.

We are here because we have the chance to be here. We lucked out to not only be born on a floating rock suitable for life, but to be conscious too. What else more of a reason do you want? Enjoy your life, all its up and downs, because when youre dead theres no sunrises or sets, no wind to blow through your hair, sensations to feel, things to see.

this can only go two ways spiral into a religious debate or come to agreement that we are just living and living to strive and spread are seed. in the end money never meant any thing more then the ability to please a persons ego. and to feed and keep the comfortable in a warm home. if we had no money we would sow are own seeds and feed are one fire. its not like that you have to be asset to the community , tribe, block, city ,state,FAMILY .if you are you find peace in your self. but if your just dragging along and not trying your best to accomplish a thing or two . then yea the meaning of life will feel opposite to neal.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I see your head is not simply for decoration. The one and true meaning of life is to have sex preferably with a multitude of hot women.

Everything else in life is secondary to having sex.

One could argue that from a philosophical perspective the human brain is a device that helps the universe realize itself.

A lot of good answers here.

Nothing makes any sense and nothing will ultimately appeal to you in any deep sense that is lasting until you evolve your consciousness.

I see no other fulfilling venture than to expand, evolve, experiment with consciousness.

How do you evolve consciousness? Learn how to operate your brain. Also, take mushrooms and just investigate your surroundings, your brain will feed on the new information.

Keep a very open mind and try to inform yourself about what you're experiencing all the time.

What you really want to aim for first is a pristine reflection of everything you do now. Try meditation for quality-of-consciousness enhancement. It makes the brain more active even when not meditating. Your cognition is pretty much all that's occurring so if it's occurring better you will have a more interesting picture of reality.

Then you will wonder what you were bitching about.

(you were bitching about your present cognition)
