I think the real question is WWJS about the fucking Federal Government of the US. I mean the US is God's country and the Feds should work for free.
I mean, Jesus would have loved the Popes getup, but I know he would have dug the Popemobile. I mean, who wouldn't?

But seriously I think historical Jesus looked more like this:

I think Jesus looked sort of like Johnny Cash and wore all black. His wore his frown like a shroud and walked like he was on a cloud. He smoked dope when it was given, and drank flagons of beer. He wasn't uptight - people called his chick a whore and they still call her that. He didn't care one whit. He swung both ways. The Son of God can fuck who and how he wants. Don't tell me this is blasphemy. You are blasphemy saying only the chosen few get to
ah neverthefuckmind one thing never changes - for all their intelligence people are fucking dense.

People all think alike. What is different is the constitution of their thoughts. People base their efforts on their own perspective thinking they are different, but in reality they are the same. Each religion props zealots. So what they fight, torture, main, kill, and so on for an inner vision, each one is essentially the same with merely (and this is how this relates to the thread topic) different dress.
What is not changing is that people dress. What is changing is the dress. Someone who didn't have a temporal experience of fashion wouldn't care what the getup. They would see dress as functional rather than as definitive of ones inner or outer status because after all we all feed maggots, and we all age and shrink and get lined and weak.
Fashion, including that of the Pope is merely the dressing on a Poboy sandwich. I believe Jesus would have said, a huge Poboy stands as much chance of passing my lips as a Camel through the eye of a needle. If ye would enter the belly of The Son ye should slim it down a good bit or I will spit ye out and drinketh my Coke instead.

I think the Pope is quite aware that the god he professes doesn't exist. It's a good job though.

Really? I'd suspect some of his close advisors are secretly atheist, but the Pope himself probably believes what he says IMO. It'd take one hell of a split personality to outwardly devote your life to a cause you don't believe in at all.

W. struck me as someone who truly believed in his faith. He was definitely manipulated by his closest advisors, but wasn't his ostensible reason for invading Iraq because "God told him to do it"?

If you read the Apocrypha then you know Jesus wasn't a nice, egoless spiritual teacher. He was a God-man with a huge ego and he liked to prove it. I doubt the Jesus of the Apocrypha would have been a pretty hippie and would more have been the Marlon Brando Apocalypse Now.

I went through a huge breakup with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi about 15 years ago. I realize I hated him and everything he stood for. At the same time I had had really good experiences with his meditation. I then got into Tibetan Buddhism for about ten years and really loved Dzogchen. I spend a few years with a Dzogchen guru as a drinking buddy. I thought I was soooo cool. I really love Dzogchen but this guru was a real average person. And nobody you would take to meet your parents. I learned that gurus have the same prejudiced nature as others and they represent the same things they were born into. In that way they were nothing but nepotistic scions of the thoughts of their forbearers.
Man I went through some headtrips I can't begin to tell you all. But at the far side when I came out and the bullshit had been cleared I found a clarity that I hadn't understood before. And sadly it's not something I can explain or help a horse to drink. I can't even lead the horse there.
But now I see clearly the bullshit of religion and politics and pretty much all manmade modes of thought as simply - bullshit. There are some types of thinking and ways of life which I consider authentic, but they do not include formal modes of worship. So when I see getups - the more high-falutin they are the more my mind wants to scream - BULLSHIT.
I believe I am a spiritual anarchist and anarchists do not feel they have to fix the dog or find new fleas to replace the ones sucking it to death. Anarchists believe that first and foremost get rid of the fucking fleas.
I don't have the faith in humanity that they will ever put the flea color on things. This is my source of cynicism and sadness. I think the world will crash and burn before it will be nurtured and preserved. Human history tells me this at every turn.
