Need some help (identifying trich)
    #18963769 - 10/11/13 12:31 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

This is my first grow.  I've looked at dozens of images, but haven't found anything that definitively compares.
It seems to be only on the bases.

So, trich?  I'm kind of sad if it is, as every mushroom has it :\

That is not trich. That is bruising on the base of your mushrooms. It is psilocybin that is oxygenating.

You'll see some discoloration / bruising on mushrooms. It just happens. If your substrate was contaminated, you would have known it before you picked those guys.

No, no one really knows why cubes bruise but they know it is not related to potency.

OP, your fruits are bruised, they look fine, eat up!

Trich would show up on your substrate before your fruits.

I would imagine it is the same reason you and I bruise. It you get hit on the arm, tiny tears in the muscle and skin cause blood vessels to break releasing blood, and causing swelling. Check this out...
http://health.howstuffworks.com/skin-care/problems/beauty/bruise1.htm
I just always assumed it was the same for Cubes, except that psilocybin is not cubes blood. The question I guess would be is the bruising a direct result in a visual distinction of psilocybin? Or is it just a way to commonly identify mushrooms based on a correlation between mushrooms that are active usually always bruise and mushrooms that are not active don't bruise blue?

That's a lot Frank, now I am totally lost in deep thought on this one.

Sorry for Highjacking your thread OP.  I don't think you have anything to worry about, if Frank says eat them, Eat them. :]

:smilingpuppy:

I know there is a ton of conflicting info on this particular, I am inclined to believe LeopardMan's POV he provided to me recently:

LeopardMan said:
What we know for sure is that psilocin is directly related to the blueing process.

That has nothing to do with potency though, cause there are many alkaloids which could cause the mushroom to stain blue and psilocin is just one of them.

Truth is we still don't know what exactly causes bruising in cubes

I have to admit that I really don't understand most of this text. I would like to point out this quote."In the absence of KCN the total amount of psilocin formation was not measurable, because of its rapid degradation
by a cyanide-sensitive enzyme system which will be described below. KCN at 10 -a M"

So the ending of this long story is that they gave rats Psilocybin to see how fast their kidneys broke it down into psilocin, and then added cyanide-sensitive enzymes to really Fuck those rats!.

I am amazed this is the kind of stuff that needs to be studied. Why can't big Pharm get moving on this with their lobbyist's. Let's get this shit legal.  Totally thread jacking again. Sorry OP.
