First grow in progress. Input appreciated!

Hello everyone. I'm a long time lurker, but this is actually my first post here on the forum. This website has been invaluable in my endeavors and I would like to thank the community for providing such great information.
Anyway, I am in the middle of my first grow using the B+ strain following the "PF Tek." I finally birthed my cakes 8 days ago after leaving them for a week to consolidate. I'm using a shotgun style fruiting chamber and the temp has been around 70F and humidity around 90-99%.I am a little worried that they haven't started pinning yet and I would like some input on how my cakes look from some more experienced growers. Today I also realized that some sections on my cakes look slightly grey and I'm starting to worry they are contamed with cobweb. Any input would be much appreciated.

They look fine to me. From a distance it looks like you might have a few knots forming. Keep misting and fanning. Make sure your SGFC is raised up.

Thanks for the quick replies! My FC is raised about an inch off the shelf. I've been misting about 3 times a day and fanning the hell out of the closest and the chamber.
I'm not going to lie I jumped the gun a little and went ahead and sprayed my cakes with some h2o2. There were some much darker grey spots that I didn't capture in these pictures. When I sprayed them, they sizzled like a steak being slapped on the grill and they grey spots seemed to clear up. I'm hoping I didn't overdo it though and just ruin my grow. My house is pretty dirty and I have seen cobweb in it before, some of these spots definitely seemed to resemble it.

Getting close to the 2 week mark. Took some new pictures. Looks like there are a lot of knots forming. Any more input would be appreciated.

Those bumbs are the knots you'll get pins in a few days then the fun part. Once your pins are set they grow fast.

Not too important really, but it's best to use as little foil as possible imo. You won't want to block the humidity that comes up from the perlite directly beneath where your future pins will be.

Still no signs of pinning. Am I just being impatient at this point or should I be looking into a potential problem? The humidity has been around 93% and temp 73F. Could the fact that I have then in a closest be the reason they are taking so long?

Gray that sizzles when hit with hydrogen peroxide is definitely contamination, mushroom mycelium has no reaction at all to H2O2.
I would toss or at least isolate the gray ones before they start sporing. When the cobweb forms tiny black specks, it is too late, your entire project is phucked!

skippydude, I just sprayed again with a diluted solution of h2o2 and there was no sizzle. I also don't see any grey areas anymore and I don't see any black spots other than what looks like bits of vermiculite. The pictures I posted in my previous post are pretty much exactly what I look like now. It looks to me like they are covered in knots.

Cobweb spreads fast. Fast as in days. spraying with h2o2 stuns the mycel. maybe you never had cobweb but just upset your cakes by spraying them with peroxide?

To be honest the gray in your pictures looked more like faint blue bruising from misting to me. Don't know why it sizzled then and not now, because once a mold is visible on the surface it has colonized the cake too. So nothing applied topically will fix the problem. Cutting out green spots and salting only slows the inevitable, sporulation of contamination.

Space, you are probably right. It hasn't quite been 2 weeks yet so I'm just going to keep waiting it out and see what happens.
Skippy, look at my pictures. There are no green spots. I don't know why it sizzled then and not now but I can't seem to find any sings of contamination.

Didn't see any green either. It was just another example of how some folks think they can beat contamination. The only thing that beats contamination is aggressive mycelium(which consumes it) and this is rare.

Seen it first hand on a petri dish, so yep I'm sure Plus I've tossed numerous projects outdoors in what I call the mushroom grave yard, and the environmental change causes trich's growth to slow enough for the mycelium to consume it and fruit again.

They look great to me, a little blueing from misting, but I think your fine and right on track. They would have gone faster at 75F. Cooler temps = slower thicker fruits

*update* 16 days after birthing
Lots of fuzzy mycelium growing and forming little balls. I can also see a little blue bruising but it looks far worse in these pictures than IRL. Still no pins though. Is this still looking good?

Because it's your first grow No really if you bring the temp up to 75F you'll see faster results Even faster at 80F but contamination loves 80F+

Cooler temps do yeild slower growth but less chances of contams. And thickers fruits. Just bear with it. Multispore grows can take weeks to fruit. Its all about geneotics.

What exactly is multispore? Like from a syringe ordered online?
Also I realized the temp has been averaging at about 69F so I suppose that could be why they are fruiting so slow. Honestly I didn't think it was going to take nearly three weeks though.
Is there any possibility that the cakes are dried out and I may need to redunk these? They haven't really showed any significant change in the past few days and it might also be worth mentioning that the cakes took quite a while to fully colonize.
In fact, I JUST birthed my 5th jar today.(that's 7 or so weeks after I knocked them up) It didn't show any signs of growth until about 2 weeks after inoculation. I thought it was just a dud, but surprisingly it ended up fully colonizing.

If they look dry and feel light when picked up. Then they may just need another dunk & roll, but if you've been misting & fanning, my guess is the temperature is a little low Try and not be too "hands on" with your cakes, unless you feel it's absolutely necessary

Multispore means a lot of genetic diversity is present. Yes, syringes are multispore.

I would say that they do look little a tad bit dry, but as for the weight it is hard for me to have anything to compare it to considering this is my first grow. One of them seems to be significantly lighter than the rest and it also is the one that appears to be the most dry.
Do I run any risk from dunking again? Do you think I should just wait a few more days and see? Sorry for all the questions, I'm sure a lot of these are pretty self explanatory. Hopefully you all can relate to anxiety of your first grow. I just want to see my babies thrive!

Take the terrarium out of the closet and give the cakes some light. If you have a ~6000K compact fluorescent bulb, use that on a 12 on/12 off light schedule if you can.
Those "knots" or whatever you call it - is that the fuzzy white bumpy stuff? Mine looks like that right now and I am getting some pinning. Been only 2 days in fruiting chamber.

Be patient is usually the best advice Re-dunking is relatively a low risk maneuver. Hopefully you will be doing it several times on these cakes between flushes. Remember to re-roll in verm after every dunk too Raise the temp 5 degrees and watch it blow up IMO

Glad to hear you are having success! Mine are covered with them but still no pins. I'm using a 6500k compact fluorescent bulb on a 12/12 schedule so I don't think that is an issue.
Unfortunately I'm not quite sure how to raise the temp in my closet right now. I don't really have the money for a space heater and I feel like it might be overkill for 5 degrees.
Has anyone ever tried using the regular 60w bulbs to try to raise the temperature in a small area? I know they put off quite a bit of heat and I was thinking maybe if I could rig some in the bottom of my closet I could bring the temp up a little. Obviously I'd have to find a way so that the light from them doesn't reach my FC. Just an idea.

Haha I know it seems simple enough. I tried the other day but for some reason it didn't seem to affect my closet. I just realized a couple hours ago that the vent near the closest was closed. Aha. Temp is now around 73F. Hope it will make a difference.

Just a quick update
Cakes finally showing a few pins the other day! Got some real thick ones growing out of the bottom of one of my cakes. Pics coming soon. Thanks everyone for the help!
