Stuck in the ego trip.

See you on the other side.

Seems to me that this is almost always the way debate goes here. Close to 100% of the time imo.  I haven't seen anyone who doesn't use this tactic in debate.  This is why imo most debate is seriously flawed and unlikely get far.  In fact maybe it's the lurkers who are the ones who can really benefit from what is said here because they can evaluate the information without as much ego interference. :monkeydance:

I'm going to have to agree with that. I've said that multiple times.

In fact maybe it's the lurkers who are the ones who can really benefit from what is said here because they can evaluate the information without as much ego interference.

Though its worth considering that this is not always the case, a lurker could be picking and choosing sides all the same to validate whatever beliefs they may holding. Since they never put it out into the open it wont be questioned, in turn they might be fueling a mechanism keeping them from questioning themselves. If that makes any sense.

Yeah it happens all the time here..which is why I ask more questions now versus making statements. I've changed my tactics up a bit, moreso that I and others can get a better understanding of anothers POV, and perhaps with the right question it invites the asked to evaluate what they have said in order to answer and may perhaps see the flaw in their logic, if there is any, versus blindly defending whatever position they were holding for egoic reasons.

Debate inherently carries the seeds of its own downfall, in that the motive of a debater is not to seek truth, but rather to win the argument.  It can be useful in order to show how some arguments are faulty, but its use is purely destructive rather than constructive; people rarely offer up original thought for fear of their post being dissected and torn to shreds, or that their e-reputation might be sullied for making a stupid argument.

Of course, pure discussion without competitive debate isn't necessarily any better, but for different reasons.

It seems like 99% of 'progress' is unlearning. If I can't just wind it up and let it go something probably needs to be destroyed/discarded. At the same time I don't think destruction and creativity ever happen alone, though the motive and quality of information could prevent any useful destruction from occurring.

I've changed my mind many times mid argument
If someone had the time/reason to read through all of my posts they might be surprised at the changes in just the past year that I've been here.

:creepylurker:

More than half of the time I am here, I do not post.
I've learned so much just watching and reading...
The discussion/debate subjects are just as intriguing to read as the human behavioral responses/thought processes of individuals caught in these dramas...

Not only am I getting food for thought, I'm getting lessons in the mental behaviors of humans.

To be human is to be fettered, to endure what one is, in perpetuum, no matter what the debility or perversity.

Humans are funny little creatures.:strokebeard:

equation, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a
computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.
