Conditions UK (Liberty shortage)

Hey I'm new to this forum and have been foraging on various occasions, mainly for liberty caps.
I have gone hunting on two separate occasions in the last week and have only been able to ID ONE liberty cap! Been in about 30 (perfect) fields, including my previous patches (that only I know about!) around the East Sussex area and not a giffee!
Could the season have passed? The last few days have been very cold and a nice lot of rain, so I though this would be prime time for the merry men.
Anyone else notice a lack of libbies around the south of England?
Regards

Forum rules: 4. Do not ask about current finds in your area. These posts have been flooding the forum for years. If you're curious about if mushrooms are growing in your area, get out there and look! Mushrooms don't read the books. Sometimes they fruit outside of season. There is no set date for any season, only vast generalizations. Your best bet is that if it's close to the season for the mushroom you are looking for and its been raining, you just might find some.
5. Do not make threads or posts discussing or reporting the weather. This includes complaining about the weather, asking if the current weather is "good for shrooms", or how long to wait after rain fall to go hunting. As a general rule of thumb, if it has rained within the last 1-10 days, and the temperatures are correct for the type of mushroom you're looking for, and the time of year is correct then it is very likely that the mushroom you are looking for is growing.

Well quoted, canid. It has been one of the hottest and driest years on record in the UK, remember that. Certainly not the end of the season until there have been a few heavy frosts.
Try different locations, sometimes fields I use regularly come up with the goods, sometimes not. There is a lot of rain forecast over the next few days, maybe just wait and try again.
The end of October is historically the best time of year for me in the south of England in the last 15 years. This year is weird though, most of the trees still have all their leaves, one thing I equate with Lib hunting is a good amount of leaves on the ground, which hasn't happened yet.
But more than anything.... keep looking! There are certainly a good few weeks left of the potential season, though as is implied above, there are no set rules.
Happy hunting.

Sorry if I broke any rules, I am just curious as to why I have seen a massive lack of caps in familiar places, not a lack of Mushrooms altogether. Plenty of Pans and similar.
I am curious as to whether others have had similar experiences.
Thanks for the help, appreciated.

All I have noticed is an insane amount of A. Muscaria, literally hundreds per patch, they are certainly enjoying something about this year, not sure that will help with the Ps. Sem hunt though.

That's lifted my spirits a little, I'm going on the morrow. Had a good ol' rain today.

Agaric means mushroom. It refers to all mushrooms with a cap, a central stem and gills.
I presume you're talking about Fly Agaric, the species of Amanita surrounding A. muscaria. It's an important distinction. You'll find them if you keep it up. It always brightens my day to see them.

I've found this season to be really good. Just keep looking . Once you find a good field it could potentially have thousands and you can return to it every season so keep looking! Liberty caps are really fussy about where they grow so dont be disheartened

Or, as i've always had the impression that the UK is a bit like the US pacific northwest in this regard; if the weather isn't making conditions right, drive 15 miles down the road.

You hit the nail on the head , the only difference being PNW have loads of woodlovers that we currently lack in the UK . Lucky bastards . I get sick of see Libs all the time here, it's not really hunting you just go out for a walk on a public footpath and they are every where .

I'm the oposite. I won't say I ever get sick of Psilocybe, woodlovers or otherwise, but I truly miss semilanceata, and I've seen miles and miles of woodlovers since I've seen one of those in the flesh.

It's like that with woodlovers too. You go to the suitable habitat during the right season and weather in an area they occur, and more or less you find them.

Had a gander with a friend round some fields. I say gander, but we missioned it 30 miles on foot! Not a Liberty in sight! Plenty of Puffballs, strange pancakes, that I am not so familiar with and plenty of dung growers. Did fins a monstrous mushroom, which I will post soon. It's strange how good the conditions were this morning and we searched an entire valley.
Does anybody know how much wind can affect the Shrooms?

I presume so. It could naurally be expected to speed drying of mushrooms and habitat.

Indeed, it has been unusually windy here for a while. I was surprised as to how fast the grass was drying after the downfall.
