Pk's Grow Log 2: Colonization Update Well here I am 4 days after spawning-to-bulk and my tubs are all dotted with little white spots! I noticed that the jars, when colonizing did so super rapidly .. way quicker than before with strong rhizomorphic growth to where I had myc "spikes" shooting from the grains to the side of the jar.. It was all about the technique, I used the same MS Syringes I did last time but I tried different things and I believe, the liquid coffee & gypsum in the bulk substrates pasteurizing water are helping a lot. I read in another thread that due to the nitrogen & slightly more acidic environment, (PH 5.5-6.5) coffee will make mycelium puffs appear in multiple spots in jars as opposed to one or two and I don't doubt that's what it was. All in all - My jars were done really fast compared to last time; awesome.. My tubs are colonizing quickly again compared to last time though not as beast as the difference in jars round 1 & 2 I'm following this through to the last flush who knows... maybe I'll discover/write something that will help someone else. It may be quiet save an update or two during colonization/consolidation so anyone who's watching if you have ?'s or Advice, please do chime in!

UPDATE: Almost Done!
Colonization of tubs is ridiculously fast compared to last time, gypsum & coffee go a long way i suppose? Same genetics (originating from the same spore syringes (eq) of which I've made 2 LC's & 2 GLC's which I tried my hand at 7jars inoculated from each LC (not the GLC, that will come in the next 2 days). --------------------------------------------------------
If jars from LCs 1 & 2 are clean I'll proceed with G2G but getting back on topic.. I think I saw a pin in one tub.. I have to take a shower and then get a good look. --------------------------------------------------------
Also those "mites" I was talking about previously were sourced to the WBS I used.. I was told that it can "expire" (i'd had it since feb) & gnats/mites w/e the hell they are start breeding. I was also told they're harmless & fortunately that's been my obvservation. They must have been in there for awhile & I've not had any issues considering I didn't even notice them until I found a large group breeding in empty jars I had near the bag of seed.. So I got rid of that bag got a new one (didn't open it yet) & i placed it inside a tub (after iso spray-down) with the clamp lid.. i might tape it but we'll see Where is everyone? If anyone's got pointers or sees a flaw in my reasoning/processes please let me know, that's what this community thrives on
--------------------------------------------------------
Until next time...

pkilly126 said: Unlike I thought I'll be doing 2 tubs not 3 as originally intended (NOTE: Now I get why you cook as many grain jars as possible) i lost 4 jars from 1 tub so I'm using the remaining 2 jars to make the other 2 tubs have 7qt spawn instead of having a weak ass third tub...
You could take the 2 jars that colonized first(or any 2 fully colonized jars) and G2G them into your next batches of PCd grains. One qt jar can easily inoculate a dozen more via G2G. Or you can G2G them into fewer qts and have faster colonization. I've had qts colonize in under a week after g2g. You could be ready to spawn another tub in a week.
Hey there, just to revisit this I'd like to say you're 100% CORRECT! G2G is soo much easier and quicker than messing with LC/Syringes and I gotta say I see why many ditched LC/GLC in pursuit of Agar or G2G means of inoculation! I'm cycling spawn jars every few days just to see different cultures' health/sterility and dial in process and methods. G2G was the easiest thing I ever did.. I had one qt. jar I put in the freezer (it was there 2 weeks give or take,I thought it was contamed wasn't bright white mycelia but gray & somehow I realized it wasn't) let it warm back up and gave it a few days to heal up.. it grew out the rest of the jar like nothin, it was only at like 65%! So I cooked up a batch of WBS and lysol bombed my air space, put gloves on (washed in iso), entire surface and sides of workstation sprayed with iso, had clean clothes on just prior to working and it must've taken 1/3 maybe 1/4 the time it would have had I used my LC/GLC & messed with the syringes.. So thank you for that nugget of gold almost a month ago haha.

PK's Grow Log 2: Ecaudor/Malabar - Fruiting Conditions
So yesterday I took my 3 colonized tubs out took of the tape put some alcohol sanitized polyfill up in there and opened them up to fan them for the first time . I have 2 tiny 5500k CFL's
Pin Porn to Come Soon!
- Mites were from expired birdseed and I'm fighting them.. I swear little white dots in my grain jars are actually eggs.. Could account for slower than usual colonization on my previously attempted LC/GLC but I have new seed and I tried to source the mites and get rid of everyone I found
- Pics are coming soon.. probably this afternoon and then everyday thereafter.. It's harvest time baby!

So you sanitized the polyfill only to blow a bunch of contams all over your substrate.
Good job!

Well I suppose if you read it, it does sound that way doesn't it? Haha I had my reasons for sanitizing the polyfill though. I had a mite/gnat issue in my grow space and I had a previously opened bag of polyfill from my last 3 tubs and I figured there probably would be eggs/larvae in the big bag of poly so I was being cautious on that front not so much for sterile procedure itself last time around I did not sterilize/sanitize the poly I just picked it with clean hands right out the bag it came in..

So far so good 13 oz. cracker dry after Dehyrator & Desiccant Jars with Paper-Bagged Ounces
I only wish I could've really shown the pinset.. I think there may have been TOO MANY competing all @ the same time but I'm not an expert by any stretch, thanks to those that've answered my questions & been there throughout this process, I love this community and I love what we do, I'm achieving my dreams of self-sufficiency & that wouldn't be possible without the knowledge I've gained from all you amazing Shroomerites!
A lil late by a few days but nonetheless, here's some pics : :

EDIT: Can some of you please rate me, or explain how that works I'd like to become more active here and ratings can be trivial I suppose but they do hold value, thanks!
