Would you give your support to a state (that isn't yours) that would like to declare independence from the USA?
Explain why.

Honestly sometimes it seems to me that it would make sense for our nation to divide. It seems we have some pretty irreconcilable differences and they really are a regional thing. West Coast FTW
Were it not for the middle of the country, we would have universal healthcare and legalized marijuana and many other great things that the backwards ass red states keep us from having.

"Of all the states which have talked about secession, the strength of the Texas economy mixed with the wealth of its resources make the Lone Star State uniquely qualified to actually have a fighting chance of pulling it off," he said. Among the natural resources are 16 ports whose economic impact on the United States totals in the billions. For the past decade, Texas has been the top state for foreign exports. Last year, they totaled $265 billion, according to data from the Commerce Department and the Port of Houston, the nation's busiest port for foreign trade. The state had a gross domestic product -- the output of goods and services produced by labor and property -- of $1.2 trillion in 2011, according to figures obtained by the Texas comptroller's office. That would rank as the 14th-largest economy in the world. Houston by itself would be the 25th-largest.

Depends on the state.
Either way if a state wants to go all confederacy and cut their own umbilical cord, itd be pretty entertaining to watch them slowly die.

I am against states breaking away. I love being an American citizen and all the land mass and different environments I can easily travel to and explore. The freedom we have within this country is astounding (Mobility wise). We occupy a fucking quarter of the entire western hemisphere. Not to mention the only geographic location we are missing.....is a tropical rainforest. If I wanted to I could grab my social and drivers liscence, and set off to a new state, look for a new job, and start a new life in a desert, forest, plain, etc. etc.

my fellow texans, suppose texas did secede from the union, which i'll add will never, ever happen. but let's say it did. can you imagine the texas state government not having to answer to constitutional authority? not only would i not support my state seceding, but if it did i would be getting my shit and hiking out of here if necessary.

I would love it. Well, the idea I have of it at least.
Our government should fear us.
Although a territorial army would probably be beneficial. If we all started bailing out, it would come down to the last few states becoming "America" by default, and thus being responsible for our global debts.
Although I imagine state's "armies" would work together...

Half of people who answered your poll on a drug website want some states to fuck off. This is not indicative of anything remotely related to the larger group, Americans.

It's not just a drug website man. We have drs, scientists, lawyers.
All walks of life, many of whom don't consume.
We're as valid a study group as any other bunch. We're just more entertaining and complex.

Fucking sad but true.
if davis gets governor, i'm hopeful she can turn things around for us. i don't know a whole lot about her policies but on the outset i do like her.
She has no shot and you know it. Turn things around in what way? Make your economy suck as much as California's. You like her because your entire knowledge of her is as a stupid abortion at any time demagogue.
The size of a state's prison population has no value as a measure of liberty.
actually she's from my area and has done a lot for my county in the way of jobs. i may not know everything about her, but i do know she's big on education, which is good considering texas' influence over the rest of the country with education and virtually everything else due to its sheer size and population. i think texas needs sensible, moderate governance, and davis seems to be a good candidate for that on the outset. i could be wrong though. and i hope you're wrong about her having a shot.
i do like her because she's an advocate of women's reproductive rights. and i won't apologize for that.
i'll also beg to differ regarding texas's prison system. we have some of the harshest drug laws in the country and it is directly related to our growing prison system. i could see things getting worse if texas were cut off the constitutional leash. but that's neither here nor there since it's never going to happen.

This is great.
Texas law and legislation have some of the worst threats to individual liberty in this country.
Since they can't use the "T" word, a lot of our rights are violated under surcharge fees, and other bogus hidden taxes.
Cases regarding surcharge fees have been some of the most horrible stories I've ever heard:
Person A gets ticket usually because they were unaware that insurance card expired, yet still is insured.
Person A shows proof of insurance, still has to pay ticket, blah blah blah.
Person A gets pulled over again 8 months later to find out is license has been suspended. Why? He was sent a surcharge fee that he never received and never knew about. Under the "Drivers Responsibility Act" (wasn't that what the ticket charge was for?) passed 10 years ago, drivers are responsible for additional fees under certain violations, and what is worse is the payment is handled by a third party private company.
Person A is then arrested and put in jail. Don't mess with Texas.
Under federal law, the Driver's Responsibility Act is completely unconstitutional.

Just say, "sure, go ahead"?
I don't really give a damn, let's dissolve this country and make 50 new ones that are all pretty much the exact same then we can say we did something!

Aside form the fact that Obama has either exempted or delayed by imperial fiat the Congress, unions and big businesses from the requirements of it I asked a specific question. To wit, how is the rollout going? They only had three years to work on it.
The Republicans took back the House because of Obamacare. You do know that it is supposed to be Congress that makes the laws and the President who implements them, right?

Its gonna rollout eventually. A big program such as this is bound to have some delays, but in the end it will be just fine. Give it time.
Meanwhile, raise the debt ceiling, there's no way to avoid it no matter who is president. Just get it over with. Giving federal employees a paid 2 weeks vacation and pissing off everybody else is not gonna help the country

Just leave Southern Oregon out of it and let us join with Northern California to form our own state in the union.
