"Of all the states which have talked about secession, the strength of the Texas economy mixed with the wealth of its resources make the Lone Star State uniquely qualified to actually have a fighting chance of pulling it off," he said. Among the natural resources are 16 ports whose economic impact on the United States totals in the billions. For the past decade, Texas has been the top state for foreign exports. Last year, they totaled $265 billion, according to data from the Commerce Department and the Port of Houston, the nation's busiest port for foreign trade. The state had a gross domestic product -- the output of goods and services produced by labor and property -- of $1.2 trillion in 2011, according to figures obtained by the Texas comptroller's office. That would rank as the 14th-largest economy in the world. Houston by itself would be the 25th-largest.

Depends on the state.
Either way if a state wants to go all confederacy and cut their own umbilical cord, itd be pretty entertaining to watch them slowly die.

I would only support it if I could profit from it personally which is entirely possible.

The Federal government wont let states have their own Marijuana. How the hell do you think they could break away? It would turn into a police state so fast your head would fucking spin

I am against states breaking away. I love being an American citizen and all the land mass and different environments I can easily travel to and explore. The freedom we have within this country is astounding (Mobility wise). We occupy a fucking quarter of the entire western hemisphere. Not to mention the only geographic location we are missing.....is a tropical rainforest. If I wanted to I could grab my social and drivers liscence, and set off to a new state, look for a new job, and start a new life in a desert, forest, plain, etc. etc.

my fellow texans, suppose texas did secede from the union, which i'll add will never, ever happen. but let's say it did. can you imagine the texas state government not having to answer to constitutional authority? not only would i not support my state seceding, but if it did i would be getting my shit and hiking out of here if necessary.

Or at least - a more autonomous status akin to Hong Kong in China... The prevailing attitudes about governments role in the lives of people are so vastly different in this area as to be almost completely incompatible with like 4/5ths the US.

texas would be the inverse on that. we have the largest prison population in the state and therefore world. texans would be less free and under more tyrannical rule than they already are.
