dunk n roll vs pf bulk casing

Recently I started my first hands on attempt at a pf tek set up. The first flush was pretty quick, not bad, about 6g dried from 5 half pint cakes. Feeling the poor things were really dried out I knew it was time to do a dunk n roll, until I came across this http://www.fungifun.org/English/Casing I put my 5 cakes into a small aluminum baking tray (about 9x5x4) and as the site said, it actually is working well so far. My question is this, should I just step up and get to a bulk pad instead of the cakes? or should I stay with pf cakes and just bury them, I'm wondering what would on average most likely give me the largest yield in the shortest time (including 9 days for colonization-for pf at least, ive never colonized any bulk substrates)

Bulk is more rewarding and worth it in my opinion and not much more difficult. Just a little extra colonization time. They both do have their purposes and advantages though.

6g between 5 cakes? did you dunk n roll before your first flush? If you didn't you could have had a much larger first flush. Why would you break them up on their second flush? from what I have read the myc is already weakened by then and now it has to rebuild and then flush again? seems like that would be counter productive to me?
pf jars suck ass... they are so much work in the end compared to a monotub grow or even the mini mono/sgfcs. On top of that grains colonize faster than cakes too because you can shake them and add more contact points.

yea, but for better chances of success id skip the fuckit tek (elementary coir tek), and go straight for proper pasteurization.

You are right, and the bucket tek is not considered pasteurization.

no I didn't dunk and roll the first time, I asked a few friends that prefer the pf tek and told me it would do just fine without the verm layer around the outside (or whatever you prefer to case with). I never broke anything up, the link I posted tells you to just place them in the tray, surround it with the new casing layer and wait, I checked this morning and theyre still loving it, plenty of extra water, little pockets of air trapped in it, and the limestone flour is really giving it a boost food wise. Sounds good to me tho, sounds like the next batches will be rye with a verm, straw, horse manure mix for the casing layer, thanks all.

oh and one more stupid question, Obviously on a pf tek cake you just take the bottom of the mush and twist it lightly pulling it to remove it from the cake, is it the same for bulk trays like I'm doing now? can I pull one mush at a time when it reaches my desired maturity, or does a small cluster (most of them have 3 to 5 each cluster of pins) have to fully mature together then pull it? I don't want to damage my mycelium anymore than necessary

Instead of making a casing layer just properly pasteurize all of that stuff and spawn the rye to it. Cubes don't need a casing layer and you'll get better results just spawning to bulk.

Don't twist and pull get some scissors or a razor blade tool to cut them. if it's a cluster and you cant single out the one you want to harvest(it's veil has popped) then just take all of them off.
