Used the search for cobweb / agar / fluffy mycelium but couldn't come to a conclusion.
What do you guys think? Myc or cobweb?
- PDA Agar poured in SAB
- MS innoc in SAB
- 1.5 weeks for colonization
Sorry for the shitty quality I need a new SD card for my camera. Pics:

/?
Thanks guys!

Looks like contam to me. If it is mycelium it will begin to "branch" out, if it's mold it will localize in spots and turn fuzzy/green/black etc. Hard to tell exactly from the pictures, but I would say it's not mycelium. Have you tried starting cultures in grain?

cubes. high humidity environment for some reason. i have condensation on the lids.
oh sorry, bit of info might help you, the black discoloration in the center of the "mycelium spot" you see is sut (spelling) or the black residue from flame sterilization.
close-up (this phone has a horrible camera)

im going to try and isolate the whitest sector i can pinpoint to another plate tomorrow.

hmm, the only time I have used agar is with Oyster mushrooms, if you are confident with your spores I have had better luck with sterilizing rye in jars and inoculating through small holes in the lid. Tried to stretch my mycelium a little too much with my latest batch, but it has worked well so far after working out a few issues with excess moisture in the jars. I would try that, unless you have a sterile spot to put the spores on the agar it is pretty tricky. Also, if your needle is too hot, the spores could be damaged when squirting through the hot needle onto the agar so be careful with that too. Maybe your agar will pan out, but not looking too promising in my opinion. Definitely a trial and error process when getting started. Good luck!

the last picture looks slightly more promising, give it a few more days to see progress I suppose. Keep it warm (80-88 degrees)

This was from a spore print, and i feel that agar would be a lot more contaminant limiting than an MS innoc straight to grain... all my other agar work is fine, just wondering why 2 different cube strains are sharing the common whispy thin myclieum or if both just happened to get cobweb.
but yea ill do another transfer and watch the progress on this one.

ohhh, sorry thought this was your first attempt. Maybe the humidity is too high and there is not enough oxygen in those dishes causing the mycelium to whisp out in searching for more oxygen? if they are in a sealed bag, maybe crack the lid a little? just an idea
