Awesome! :awedance:

Im gonna go looking for some chants and matsis, was just wondering, when i come across chants and matsis, should i then eat them that same day or do they go bad? How long do they last in the fridge only a couple days?

If i weren't able to chow down all my finds in time, where is a common place one would go to sell matsis? I was thinking of just taking them to my local resaurants that very same day. And how exactly enforced is the whole hunting permit thing  trying to tax nature

Happy '13 hunting season and good luck to yall.

Federal employees on furlough, so... Yah, can't buy a permit even if you wanted one!

Also,  the personal use permit is free,  so not really taxing nature

Cortinarius traganus

Boletus mirabilis

Herecium ?

Amanita ?

Land of plenty (with matsutake)

i was discouraged as everywhere i went today it seemed someone had been there before me.  everywhere i walked were upturned mushrooms that had been kicked over or cut off cleanly with a knife.  mostly white gilled ones.  i was almost frustrated enough to get in the car and go home after looking at the remains of what someone hoped was a matsutake when i accidentally looked 3 feet away at the 2 they had missed.  i thought they were JAR and it was only habit that made me bend down and look under the cap.  when i saw the ring i knew.  then it was on.  i spent the next hour walking through the most magical streamside area.  it was nice.  sorry if i'm bombarding this thread, i've had some time to devote to hunting this last week and wanted to share.  i think i've had a wonderful streak of beginners luck.

That is indeed a Hericium, a beautiful one at that. Where the fuck are you hunting? You've been finding those most awesome edibles lately! I'm impressed.

Seriously! Some really good edible hauls uhurungus. I've been visiting family in AZ the last week.granted my obsession didn't stip me from finding some type of earthball or puffball in the back yard. I'm dying to fly back to portland on saturday and head up to the mountain for some more epic hunts. Still waiting to find my first pnw  matsi. My girlfrind went up today and though she had one till I texted her that  her matsi was actually a russula brevipes. Those buggers!

Our Shaggy parasol patch returned this year, I thought the chickens had decimated the mycelium for sure.

I believe these are C. olivieri.

Here's some finds over the last month

Not sure on this guy, or what the host might have been.

These bright little cuties caught my eye in some grass next to a stream.

These came out of my new edulis farm.  I don't even have to hunt them down anymore

For the life of me I can't tell if this a grizette or a cora cora.

Found an abundance of sulfur shelf this year, but these two really caught my eye.

Here's a special find from the edulis patch

Amazing year for the kings, I found one oak tree today that has thirty buttons under it.  Hop digity!

I don't have the time to hunt between school and work.  I just have this weird thing where my mushie sense goes off.  All of these finds are from me getting a tingle, pulling off the road and walking about twenty feet.

When I finally get out to the woods it's just piles of soggy chants, everyone else seems to have pillaged the area already.

Funny how that works.

Uhurungus, you are TEARIN' it up!  What part of the state are you in?  I'm south and apparently we're seeing a few matsis but I haven't been out yet, just doesn't feel dreary (cold and wet) enough for them yet.  ;-)

I know how you feel when you see that everything is picked over or worse, destroyed for no apparent reason.  But you also discovered the other secret - more are hiding.  Never fails with matsi, looklooklook, nothing, find one, turn around, there's more.  It's a kick.

Some more little Agaricus flushing from my empty lot...  Two of these have already been the star of omelettes.  Sauteed up with some garlic thrown in as soon as the juice is almost reabsorbed, with some cheddar, fresh homegrown tomato and sour cream.

Doh!  Should have looked around for some kinda critter to stage up here...  Didn't even notice the drop of water 'till I posted it up.

I'm slow.

ate some Birch Boletes for the first time a few hours ago...

removed the outer layer (pellicile) and sautéed the remainder.

I'd love to known if I did anything wrong there.

They were yummy BTW.

Big prize at the end of a hike

Can someone confirm this as an Edulis? I have never collected them before. There were way more big old rotten ones, could've gotten a backpackful if I'd been there a few days earlier.

Also loads of Craterellus on the same trail, mostly just starting

next to these cool cortinarius

and others still same trail, didn't take these

not sure what this is or if it's edible

I think it's Trametes versicolor, but wait for further input.
