And the S in SFD stands for synthetic. There's nothing synthetic about cellulose it's actually quite organic hence it attracting mold since probably half of the kingdom of fungi specializes in metabolizing the stuff.

hah no problem it's just Jerkoff has been posting all sorts of half-assed one line responses lately. Not that I'm the most useful member of this society. I'm a dick and a UTFSE person sometimes but hey I started learning how to UTFSE from having those UTFSE people reply to my noob bullshit. Look at the rating frank left me haha.

Yeah haha I've tried utfse and didn't find a good answer to the question what made up a sfd. I'll try to find it again.
Ended up with 200x ptfe .22 micron hydrophobic media filters.

I bought those filters as well. I like them because they are hydrophobic so water does not get into the jars.

The filters have rabies? How does being afraid of water repel water?
EZ felt is not the same as the material synthetic filter disks are made of. The early ones were PTFE, but the ones aloha medicinals sell retain their micron rating after repeated autoclave cycles. RR

When I was a kid(1950s) in the age before saran wrap, we had cellophane to wrap stuff up in. I've been trying to convince manufacturers to develop filter patch bags out of the stuff. The idea is if they make it thick enough to withstand autoclaving, it would keep the contents sterile long enough to colonize, at which point the mycelium would also colonize the bag.
The biggest guilty conscience I get from mushroom farming is all the plastic waste I send to the landfill every month. We need to find a better way. RR

So Roger rabbit, I must ask... What material makes up a synthetic filter disc? As sold by our wonderful vendors here? Ptfe? Polypropylene? Pvc? Cellulose?
You said ptfe was the earlier models... What's the standard today?

Hey all,
Just found this and wonder how it would perform on grain jars? Maybe double layer. It's polypropylene, glazed. I don't know the pore size though.

Please don't get angry at me if I'm right or wrong but I think people high up that know what they are made of would loose money if we knew that we could probably go somewhere like hobby lobby to get the material to cut our own sfd's I might be wrong but I do know that they have to be used in other instances and easier to buy face to face in some store just a different name.

I still like knowing in the back of my head, that my "filter" was designed and made to a certain specification for the purposes of filtering...
Hobby shops... do I need to explain?

Hobby Lobby? The people who use their business influence to take away human rights because of their cherry picked ideology?
Places not to go 1) walmart 2) hobby lobby
