Stupid When people don't understand why a god would let bad things happen

Like, really? In their mind, if there was a god, he would make everyone's lives completely comfortable and struggle free?
Thats kinda proof that those people invent what god is in their minds. To them, god works for them.
Thoughts?

My thoughts... Is that God wants you have to have free range entirely. He created man heaven and earth and let it be as it may. Make it wonderful or make it terrible. Be consumed by good or be consumed by evil. Make a path of your own, God does not want to control you.

Thats not at all what the bible says.
Also there's this little gem, ahem,
“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”
So much easier than people give credit for.

Not everyone who uses the term "God" sees the Bible as any kind of authority.

Okay sure, but that's not the God of the Bible, who is supposedly all-loving, all merciful, and just. If the Bible's claims about God were true then there would be no evil and no suffering.
And if you're talking about a totally different sort of God, i.e. one who makes people struggle because he/she/it feels like it, then that doesn't sound much like God to me.

The God of the Bible is pretty varied, and claiming that one consistent picture is painted through the whole thing takes some logical backflips. Most people who see it as a source of guidance in some capacity are selective in which parts they take to heart, whether they admit that to themselves or not.
One common interpretation is that physical suffering is allowed to take place in order to purify the soul or something to that effect. The idea that God has some rulebook he must play by in order for souls to be redeemed does suggest that he's not all-powerful though.
On the other hand, the stance that the Bible (or any other religious or philosophical work) need not be 100% consistent to be helpful is quite a bit easier to defend than an insistence that the entire thing must be totally accurate and consistent. Ultimately everyone makes their own calls as to which things are important in life and which aren't, whether or not they make reference to "holy books" or the supernatural in outlining their views.
