Burnt / Burned / Overcooked PF jars can colonize fine

I steam sterilized my third round of BRF cakes and accidently overcooked the jars when the pot ran dry on steam/water. The jars got the infamous "half cracks" aka cracks on the exterior but not interior of the glass. And the bottoms of the sub turned brownish black. However I inoculated against this boards advice, and 2/3 are marching along beautifully. The burnt sub does take twice as long as the unburnt sub in the middle/tops of the jars, but it's a-okay.
Just adding my two cents. The sub can be overcooked, idk about 100% burned substrate, but atleast 50% and less will act perfectly fine.
Sorry I'm on IPHONE and can't upload images. I will update yeilds later this month/early next month on the two burnt pf cakes. I'm expecting 3G a flush minimum. The mushroom has spoken. I would tell you what it said, but I am beginning to feel as if the teachings imparted are solely intended for SPECIFIC trances, and are not to be reproduced to the uninitiated.

wow this just happened to me, thanks so much for this post. I was worried I messed up my jars, I steam sterilized for 100 minutes on accident rather than 90. Then the water ran out and it went dry. The jars were extremely hot, but they seemed to have retained their water content. Cool!

Colonized doesn't mean fruiting or going to fruit. Lots of people have tried to grow on toast or breakfast cereal with no success which is about what you'll be using.
If you have lots of spores to waste, try it. If not, start over and don't let the water run out next time. Simply have another pot of water boiling on the stove so you can pour in already boiling water as needed during sterilization. RR

How dark is burnt considered? Every time a use a PC, i nevet run out of water, but always tend to have 2 or 3 jars that are darker than the rest. Not black by any means, but definitely noticeably darker than the mixture looks before you pc it.
