have ONE person you can call who knows you will be tripping. Obviously make sure its someone you trust and feel completely comfortable with the fact that he knows you are tripping. So if you do get lonely, freaked out, or excited and wanna tell the world... You have that one person you can call. You couldnt even put the name under 'Tripping' on your contacts list so you dont have much difficulty working your phone :smile:

:whathesaid: Calling or texting a person you love (and of course knows you're tripping!) can pull you back to reality when shit gets too intense... If you wanna go deep, fine (do it! :thumbup: :wink:) but it's always good to have an assurance.

Sometimes I like to trip with one other person, to have a sense of companionship, we might watch videos together, walk through a forest together, or might do our own thing knowing that there is someone one room over in the same situation!

I'm gonna stay true to my signature and give you some solid pointers from Terence McKenna here. These are all tried and true by yours truly and I've found them to have great efficacy. Here are some tips that specifically pertain to avoiding a bad trip, and how to deal with one and get it back on track if it does go left on you at some point:

The first pointer I'd have to recommend is one that can be useful in avoiding super heavy bad trips... granted, there's tons to be learned from bad trips and many experienced trippers find them to be the most beneficial trips of all, but the key word there is "experienced"... for somebody relatively new to psychedelia, a severe bad trip might do nothing more than forever turn that person off of psychedelics. To reduce your chances of being confronted with some nasty shit that you've buried in your subconscious and are trying not to face (though keep in mind if you stick with psychedelics you WILL have to deal with this at some point sooner or later; and it's likely not gonna be easy), I recommend eating the psychedelic (whatever it may be) and immediately after eating it sit and meditate in a quiet room until you begin to feel the effects. I don't mean meditate in the traditional sense of clearing your mind. Instead, try to focus on all the bad shit you've done in your life, how you've hurt people, how much of a jerk you are, etc. Even if you don't ordinarily feel that way, try to focus on it for the first 40mins-1hour (or however long) before you begin to feel the effects of the drug. I've found that if you really force yourself to examine what a douchebag you've been immediately after you eat the psychedelic, by the time the 40 minute or 1 hour mark rolls around and you begin feeling the effects, you'll be so sick of examining your character flaws and faults that it will be removed from your subconscious mind for a while and will not crop up at some point during the trip and cause the trip to take a major left turn.... This does have some minor potential to get the trip started on a heavy note, but I've found that if I force myself to confront that shit during the onset, I spare myself the cosmic ass whooping that might ensue later in the peak of the trip and cause a severe bad trip/panic.

Now let's say you find yourself in a bad trip and cannot get out of negative thought loops for whatever reason, here's what I recommend (and this is Terence McKenna 101): SING. Just sing. It can be anything you want, anything at all. Just begin to sing. It will feel awkward at first and your instinct will be to STOP singing because it feels weird; DO NOT quit. What your trying to do is find a certain tone, a certain vibration that resonates with the trip in a positive way... so if you start singing mary had a little lamb and it's doing nothing for you, start singing a different tune with different vibrations and tones, maybe some Jimi Hendrix. Eventually you will find a tone, vibration or note that just feels good when you make it. Once you find this sweet spot, keep imitating that tone or vibration, but experiment with directing it around and trying related tones that might jive with it. Once you can lock on to the right frequency, it will FEEL amazing and you'll notice the anxiety and negative thought loops have begun to recede... at this point, just keep at it. You can literally use sound like an oar to steer your trip back into calmer and more reassuring waters.

Note you don't have to be a musician or have any special affinity toward music for this to work; I couldn't be more tone deaf or musically naive but this technique has got me out of many a bad trips. Like I said, the key is to keep at it: you're tendency in the middle of a bad trip will be to try it for all of 10 seconds and if it doesn't begin to take the edge off or steer the trip into a better direction to just stop singing altogether... do NOT do this. Keep at it. If it doesn't work in the first few seconds, it's probably because you just haven't resonated with the right tone or vibration so just experiment with different tones. The tendency when caught in a bad trip is to curl up and look at the clock and think "how long has it been since I ingested this? How much longer is it gonna last?"... This is NOT the way you want to meet a bad trip. This will almost assuredly only make it worse and you're likely to experience extreme time dilation and think you'll never survive the next 8 hours until the effects begin to subside. Instead of curling up and trying to do the math on how much longer you're going to be tripping for, sit up straight, take big deep breaths, begin to force air into your lungs and redirect the energy flow of your body and SING. Once you hit that right vibration, you'll be on your way to much clearer waters and when you really lock onto the euphoric and ecstatic frequencies you'll be roaring like a lion in no time.

Curious if anybody else here has had any success with this technique? It's worked for me personally on many occasions, and I have introduced a few people to this idea and several people have told me this has worked for them as well. But like I said you really gotta stick to it, for the first minute or two it can feel slightly unnatural and your natural inclination will be to want to stop, but don't quit. Keep experimenting with sound and you will get it right at some point. I've even imitated the sound of an idling motorcycle outside at the neighbors house whilst having a bad trip and for some reason that sound just REALLY resonated with me and was ecstatic and euphoric when I attempted to imitate it (I don't know why, dont own a motorcycle or give a shit about them) and helped me get the trip back on a positive frequency in no time.... This is what the various indigenous shamanic cultures have understood for millenia, especially in the Amazon basin; sound is the tool with which you can steer psychedelic voyages. That's why icaros (magical songs) are so central to a shamans mojo-bag and in my personal opinion, why far less people freak out and think they're dying or have extreme negative bad trips in the Amazon... if the shaman sees a member of the ceremony is struggling or having a hard time, or getting caught up in some negative energy, he will begin to use different songs until one resonates with that person and steers their trip back onto a more positive track.
