Habitat: Found growing directly from fallen tree
Gills: Pinkish, appear to be free, maybe very slightly attached?
Stem: 2 - 3"
Cap: Dark Grey Cap
Spore print color: Spore print attached. Salmon/pinkish
Bruising: Did not notice any bruising at all.
Other information: No scent noted

Thanks! I'm new to this. Pluteus was my initial guess. More specific?

Im not so sure about P. cervinus, I pik allot of them and they always have a white to pink gill color, never ever yellow ,,,,unless thats the lighting.....so if it IS pink or was then your closer to P. Cervenus.... The stem looks really colored, and seems to have a grey color to it, the p cervenus I have picked in your area and mine and else where in Seast have a white stem, smooth, Now the larger cousing the "Deer mushroom" tends to get that colored stem more often and is much larger than most p. cervenus and has more of a tanish grey cap. Cervenus seems to more than not have a grey cap, and smaller stature...... IDK..........

Thanks for your thoughtful response. I've looked at the keys for hours on this one. It is the lighting. I'm working on figuring out how to fix my shots. Not used to taking such close ups. Gills were pinkish. stem is greyish. No ring.
I'm just not sure...
Thanks again for any additional input!

Okay, well after another close look, I would say with a 90 percent chance, Now this is just a guess........GUESS IS to me......YES P> CERVENUS..........cool find....gonna need some more but if you look up potency they tend to range dramatically from a potent as cubensis to veryweak.......so be carefull, IDK what contributes to the dramatic swings in psilocin and psilocybin content but they do. I believe they can have up to from the few specimens tested, .36 or some thing around there was the highest which is a good potency even for a cubensis...so I would think that if it had allot more bluing then of course the psilocin content was higher which may also indicate a higher psilocybin content....... either way like with all wild finds, a correct I.D. then start with a GRAM........every hour go up a half g until you hit an eighth......if you aint where you want to be by the time you have downed an eighth. then forget wasting your time....but you may also be just as likely to find more potent ones that would get you off on a couple grams of a bit less,,,,so just start low.....Some say a half Gram, But a friend of mine just ate a half gram of dried but fresh weilii and did not have a threshold exp....so more like 2 grams was needed for level 2........so allot of mushies vary in potency,,,even mushies that r supposed to be more potent across the board......also......I do believe handling to much jacks them up, and also a nice slow dry is best, about a night to dry, a friend has a cheap dehydrator with no adjustment and it hits about 100 maybe a bit higher and this seems to ruin the potency by half....but thats just him....so be careful good luck,,,,,,look in the grass for the weilii,,,,,,,a friend says, try those huge center medians that run in the middle of the free way...they r safe. about 50 feet across, slants down to a ditch. you can walk for miles down those and its all grass that is bout 5 inch high or so and hydrated well...exp..after that intense rain and this drop in temps......this week is perfect......its getting cold at night ...another few weeks may stunt the weilii if it keeps dropping in temps like this....35 degree swings...wOW.....78 in day to 45 at night...and only gonna get worse.... gl

So are you saying P.cervinus is active? Just wanted to be clear. I was hoping it was Salicinus.
Thanks once again for spending so much time responding to my posts.

I would call P. salicinus plausible in terms of stature and colour, but since you don't see bruising it would better be resolved with a microscope.

iatebadshrooms might be *saying* that P. cervinus is active (I gave up on trying to read his post), but that doesn't mean it is. Some people think it's a pretty good edible though.
