BRF Cakes: Fruit to a SGFC vs Spawn to a monotub??
    #18911407 - 09/30/13 01:53 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I've got 12 BRF jars colonizing. No pressure cooker, so I initially intended to shred up the BRF cakes and spawn to a couple coir/verm mini- monotubs.

I also have an already-prepped SGFC from a former grow.

What do you guys think is better? Differences in yield, contam risk, etc?

Thanks in advance.

Spawn the cakes into trays and fruit them in your sgfc.

There is no real advantage, it's just that you have brf cakes and making trays is much more simple than a monotub when using cakes. A sgfc is the superior fruiting chamber when compared to a monotub in terms of fresh air exchange and relative humidity.

ok well lets say you want to grow cakes and use a tub to do it, before you go drilling holes let me drop this on all of you.
for a sgfc to work at it's best it's said to have x amount of cakes in it(as much as possible) so for the sake of simplicity lets say you can fit 12 in the tub your gonna use, now your gonna need to drill x amount of 1/4 inch holes on all six sides and fill it with about 2 bags of perlite that are usually 6-10 bux a pop, and once your cakes are colonized now they have to sit for a week or 2 to consolidate, now lets talk y i say mono, it would take the same amount of cakes to crumble to the same amount of bulk as perlite needed in the sgfc, and bulk is more then 10 times cheaper, you also only need to drill 6 holes not a shitload, and in the time it takes for your cakes to consolidate is about the same time it would take for those cakes to colonize the bulk in the mono, once put into fruiting you now don't have to fan and mist and your yeild is much better, just some good food for your thought, have a nice night and may your choices be wise

--------------------

It doesn't matter what i think of you...all that matters is clean spawn

I'm tired do me a favor

thanks.  very good points, that's pretty much what I was thinking, monotub seems like the way to go but I've heard a few people speak out against using brf cakes to spawn to bulk in a monotub so that's why I was wondering
