Found this guy today and am a bit perplexed by it. It's obviously a Boletus sp., but I'm at a bit of a loss in narrowing it down any further.
Habitat: South Puget Sound, WA, in a conifer forest, under Douglas fir and Western Red Cedar
Gills: Pores yellow, staining blue on handling
Stem: 3 inches, about 1/4 inch in diameter, white, not staining, solid.
Cap: Brown, about 2 inches in diameter, dry and bolete-like, inside yellowish-white, no obvious bruising. Taste mild.
Spore print color: printing
Bruising: Blue bruising of pores on handling, no bruising of other parts.
I've found B. fibrillosus in the same forest before, though they have not had blue-staining pores. Plenty of B. chrysenteron there, and it's definitely not one either. Any ideas what this one could be?

Are those scabers on the stem? And the cap texture? A spore print would be awesome if you can squeeze one out. Oh, and a closeup pore shot.

No scabers, it's definitely not a Leccinium. Will shoot pics and report back tomorrow.

Is the cap smooth? Velvety? Sticky? etc.? Oh, also--is there reticulation on the stem?

Dry and velvety. There is brownish reticulation on the stem, but not very pronounced (see first picture). The darker stuff is just dirt.

Whoa, those are some serious pores. I'm fairly certain it's Boletus ferrugineus, which also has several synonyms depending on who you talk to, where they're from, and how they're feeling that day.
