Harvesting causing adjacent pins to abort
    #18954766 - 10/09/13 02:47 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I harvest from a mono-tub just when the veils start to break. Two to three hours after harvesting I come back to see blackened caps.

Sterilite 64qt
Three 1/2 inch holes on each side
No misting, I air 2-3 times a day.

Are you cutting them at the base or using the twist-pull method?

That's probably why. You're damaging feeding/watering routes in the nearby pins. Try sniping them off with scissorsas close to the base as possible.

my pins almost always abort. when i get a second flush there all from new pins. Yes i cut and most of the time i leave the butt (not at substrate lvl) infact if i cut anything off a flush all the unopened caps stop growing and start opening, my conclusion is the mycellial network assumes damage has occured and is trying to spore out before the rest is damaged. just a guess, Ive noticed tho that if i just remove the cap of opened shrooms the rest will continue to grow out, so ive stopped cutting early bloomers, and just clip the caps to print while i wait.

I would very much like others to chime in with their thoughts about this. I've seen people remove caps from really heavy canopies in a mono, but I thought it might just be for ease of harvesting.

Can some TCs/experienced throw some o dat knowledge around?

^^That's an interesting theory, I may have to try it out.

I apologize for the double post but I didn't want to start a whole new thread about it, does the technique described by MoGrow actually work? Can any TCs/experts confirm this logic?
