pressure cooker care?
    #18955024 - 10/09/13 03:50 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Is there anything i need to do to keep my pc in good shape? like with the valves or with the rubber seal? I have a Presto 16 quart cooker.
Since it is one of the most important tools in a cultivators possession i want to keep it at the top of its game:wink:

Ive never lubed mine lol

But when it came in the box it was all lubed.. so you probably should to prevent drying out and cracking

I lube mine every 4-5 uses. Just a very thin coat will do it. I've had the same gasket for years now.

All Americans need lubed every time you use them.

I have gone through 4 prestos before i dropped the money on a heavy duty AA pressure cooker ... Presto's tend to warp a little after heavy use ...

I have been using my mirro 22qt since I started, which is a little over a year now, using it multiple times a month, sometimes once a week.

The gasket is still 100% in my eyes, no warping, nothing bad at all.

It has been by far the best $70 investment I have made.

i've got a presto 23 qt that i've had a year... it's been used so much it's out of breath, sometimes a cycle (or 2) a day for 2 weeks straight, with no maintenance... no veg oil, no nothing other than a quick rinse... somtimes i think it's looking at me funny, pondering a restraining order... in the last couple uses i've noticed a little leakage around the gasket... i imagine if you took a little better care of it than i do mine it will last a good long time...

I give mine a good spray down with silicone spray once in a while and let it soak overnight then wipe clean before use.  My last car had T tops and I was living somewhere suuuper hot and the top of my car started leaking a bit in the rain so my mechanic recommended the silicone spray 1-2 times a year and it worked wonders, never had to replace the weather stripping.  Always leaves the rubber feeling new.  Hasn't let me down yet.

cooking oil i noticed will leave a brown "burntish" residue though compared to vaseline. in any case you need to condition the gaskets for maximum non shrinkage with either of the two

My use was excessive, about 70 quart jars. An  1hr 30 min  "session" only held about five or six at a time  and i did about 70 per grow or more ,,,,, warped them bad lol AA no seals and a 50 year warranty
