When I went to Austin, I felt like I was back in Fl. It looked like every other person was going to light up. Haha what a town. Small town, but 6th street felt like a rainbow gathering or something.
Dallas was kind of snooty in a weird way, still cool place, but everyone has a sort of "Im a doctor" sort of attitude. Which is weird considering its a very pretty expensive city, but not so much to make up for the weird attitude. And in Richardson where I was everything closed at 9:00. Over all Id say of all the places Ive been in Texas Houston is the most good ol hillbilly south style friendly hick and Mexican loving type place Ive been.
But Id say out of 100 people you meet in Houston maybe one smokes weed, in Dallas maybe 7 or8 smoke out of 100, and Austin seems the least conservative, at least down town around 6th and Congress it looks like every person lights up.
Anyone else agree?

Hi all, First time poster but frequent the site quite often...
I have to agree with OP, Dallas folks are way up their own ass but most of em are a-okay. Houston is just way too many people for me to even really get a grasp of that city i dont like it, But Austin is rad! Very progressive and Bike friendly which is what I'm all about. Very cool city, very hard to not to have a good time.

Never been personally, but I have a friend who just came back from there for a 2 week trip in August and had a blast and said he was very surprised at the atmosphere there. Was his first trip to any part of TX and he said he had expected it to be a very conservative, gun slingin place with a significant population of old people, but instead found Austin to be pretty left-leaning and progressive with a booming music and art scene... he said even the bar scene there was full of down to earth and chill people.
And he said on day two he was able to find some stoners and score a hookup
Sounds pretty much like what you described. However, I personally would never go to Texas... just don't care to.

Texas has its pros and cons. But with any where you travel you will have that. Also with traveling its never going to be the same from where you first began or came from. I have friend from Boston and he was very upset to see so little places where you could get a slice of pizza at 3 in the morning after heavy drinking lol where hes from this is easy to obtain.
Texas is a good place to visit. Austin in particular, if you're wondering why they call the live music capital of the world you must find out for yourself. amazing music, vibes, food, beer, and very easy going people.
But like i said Texas has its cons as well...

How is Austin a small town?
Because it is. It gets big during the school year, and then empties out for the summer. Hardly any permanent residents.
As for the OP: DFW is incredibly diverse, but also incredibly spread out. Depending what area you're in, you can find some herb on the street within minutes. Richardson isn't one of those places. And you're right, there are a ton of stuck up people here. Luckily the metroplex has about 12 million, so there are pockets of really cool people. If you manage to make it into the right crowd then DFW can be an awesome place.

Also, Dallas cops are pretty cool because they see so much crazy shit that a little bit of drugs isn't a big deal to them. But pretty much any other county is going to suck. Some of the worst are Highland Park and Garland.

Montgomery cops are assholes no matter what, and especially with drugs. Specifically in the conroe/woodlands area.

Quote:
Austin is the capital of Texas and the seat of Travis County. Located in Central Texas and the American Southwest, it is the 11th-largest city in the United States of America and the fourth-largest city in state of Texas. It was the third-fastest-growing large city in the nation from 2000 to 2006. Austin is also the second largest state capital in the United States.Austin has a population of 842,592 (2012 estimate). The city is the cultural and economic center of the five-county Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area, which had an estimated population 1,834,303 (2012 U.S. Census).
I don't consider 800,000+ people to be a small town. That's more than twice the population of the biggest city in my state.

My only memories of Texas are in layovers at the airports. Particularly in Dallas...I just remember seeing a lot of ladies with big hair the moment we got into Texas.
I'd love to go to Austin though. I'm planning out a big roadtrip this summer with friends - I've only got people in the Carolinas and Virginia, but I will be damned if I don't make it through NOLA and Austin.
Houston seems like a pretty booming town, but Austin seems way more my style so I will probably end up picking that one.

So many stereotypes.
Bro Houston blows the fuck down, I would venture to guess that out of 10 people, 7-8 smoke or have smoked in the last year. This whole state is a booming cannabis economy.

Yeah, the cops in HP will get to your door within two minutes of a call. I know cause I had some friends in Dallas there who frequently TP'd people's houses back in high school.
Austin is a very weedy city, I've even seen people lighting up on the streets once or twice. But it's this land of broken dreams. People either come here because they want to get away from a lot of the conservatism in the rest of the state or because they want to be an artist type, and they either find out that Austin is still Texas or that trying to be the one special flower among hundreds of thousands of other special flowers is a bad strategy. No one's from Austin, no one stays in the end.
