Cleaning Psilocybe Cyanescens

So I went out yesterday and went to most of my hunting areas and one of them fruited a large area. I picked some of them and I took them home for cleaning and drying, my question is about cleaning them;
The past few times I have gathered them I would put them in a bowl of water and than picked them out one by one cleaning them and clipping the very bottom of the stem.
I have been told that letting them "soak" which I wasn't intentionally doing reduces their potency and is "bad" for them, but keep in mind these guys are idiots. Since they are, I do not know what to think of it and I have turned to the Shroomery- does anyone know if letting them "soak" in water ruins them?

I'm not intentionally soaking em, although I could have them sitting on the counter instead of in a bowl of water (it was a sink actually, found a good amount)

I would not let them sit in water. A quick dip or a second or two under the faucet should suffice.

i would say soaking is bad for any mushroom. Unless it's dried and you're soaking it to re-hydrate.

Save the water... Can be full of spore... Dump on likely wood chip beds for future mushroom fun
Unless they are really dirty.. I don't wash... Upon drying, can brush off any debris
Also on the "don't soak" club...
-------------------- Mushroom hunting: One bad mushroom can ruin your day! Know it or throw it.

Thank you, will do in the future. They were horribly dirty, growing in a swamp pretty much and looks like the park workers dumped dirty/mulch/bark on top of them while they were growing, looked very new.

I bet it's a shroomery member who landed a job in parks.
