Found these while hunting Amanita muscaria today. They were growing on the ground, next to and under some logs of Pinus taeda (Loblolly).

Yes it's a Suillus. Unfortunately I can't tell you more, you'll just have to find which species grow in your area and narrow it down.

I see this one is mycorrhizal with loblolly. That's probably it.

The annulus looks relatively sturdy. Looks like Suillus intermedius to me. If the cap slime tastes acidic (seriously), that's what it is. If you're not interested in the prospect of licking that mushroom in the name of science, I totally don't blame you.
I'd agree with Suillus corthunatus is a possibility, too.

I remember the corthunatus' I found, the caps were so sticky that they kept getting stuck to the Hood of my car lol...but I didn't think to lick those... if it is corthunatus, they are edible.....

The caps were not slimy or sticky really. They had a somewhat fibrous appearance that I mistook for Jilms upon spotting them.

Sometimes the slime dries and the cap looks like a shiny roll, or there's debris practically cemented to the cap. The caps looked shiny in your pics.

Might be closer to intermedius I think then... the s. corthunatus I found had a white veil...
