Some questions
    #18953422 - 10/09/13 09:29 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

1. Can psilocybe semilanceata be found in Ohio?
2. Mycelium Im told is the main part of the mushroom. What you see is the fruit. My question is: can more then one type of species spring from the same mycelium? Like if I find Boletes on a hillside the they stop popping is it possible to find meadow mushrooms in the same place at a different part of the season? Ive found Chanterelles in the same place as Boletes within 10 feet of each other. I try to mark where I find certain genera and determine how far or where the mycelium grows.

1. See: http://www.shroomery.org/12247/Mushroom-Locations
2. No... Mycelium is the fungus... The organism... Be like you having kids and they be a cat. Now, more than one mycelium can be in the same soil...  Different mushrooms then from the same location.  Like you having a cat and dog and fish all in your house... (Ok... Enough with the lame analogies already!!)

Best thing to start with is learn to make a spore print
Can really help with IDs

Next... If you can take pictures of the mushroom cap, gills and stem, post them in this forum as an  ID request... Some good guy will help you

If you want to make it easy, follow this http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5731447

Honestly... There are a number of possible mushrooms people confuse with liberty caps

Looks like Ohio does have some active mushrooms... Might want to look up what is found there and learn those mushrooms habitat... Where they grow...

Peace and good hunting

mushroom ovbservers maps showing locations of finds is a really helpful tool.

http://mushroomobserver.org/observer/map_observations?q=1Y6ba

Looks like there is one observation in OH.

Hello,  hoping someone can help me...

Hopefully I've found my first libs, happened to bump into a fellow hunter on my travels and they kindly pointed out exactly what I should be looking for.

Thanks in advance

Hi joseppi. Welcome to the shroomery.

First all of your finds are P. semilanceata. Nice finds.

Second, it is not cool to jack someone else's thread like this.

No big deal you are new but you should make your own ID requests in the futures.

Psilocybe is in the family Strophariaceae, and have alot of macroscopic similarities to Stropharia.  Psilocybe cubensis was formerly categorized as Stropharia cubensis.  Oops correction hahaha.  It seems Psilocybe has been moved to the newly formed family Hymenogastraceae, but yeah you get the idea.
