I tried reading Moby Dick about a little less then a year ago, and while some parts were really good, I couldn't make it through the 500 pages of Ishmael going off about whaling bullshit. So, yes you did just save me a lot of reading.

I've been trying to get myself to read that for years also. So when my old friend from the shroomery sent me this I was thrilled. There's a whole bunch more of these too on the classics. I just did Catcher in the Rye a few minutes ago. Another great classic checked off my list.

That was surprisingly good. Thanks for sharing. I tried to read it a long time ago, but the sheer size of the book turned me off from attempting it. I'm more inspired to read it now after listening to some Thug Notes. From that analysis too, I see now that there's a lot more to that book than +600 pages of whaling that some of my teachers back in school lead me to believe.

It looks like he stopped posting before I joined. I remember his avatar from older posts, but that's about it.

You must be "new" or something, people around here (including many Enlightened Beings) are in denial about Enlightenment as an experiential phenomena.
....it may be a misinterpretation of Shakyamuni's "No Dharma is Definitative."
Zen sect interpreted that as meaning "No Dharma, therefore no Enlightenment."
What is Enlightenment.
Then what is Zen Koan.
Any answer was deemed "definitive" and therefore not an answer.
The answer is so small is makes absolute nothingness in comparison factually vast in comparison.
There is no room for words when nothing is left but Concentrated Awareness.

Interesting perspective. The whale represents both God and Nihilist void...but it seems to me that Ahab would have been better off if he just let the whole thing go, then his mind would have been able to organize and he would see the difference between the nothingness of nihilism and the nothingness of consciousness.
