Spotting Aborts

Okay so i've been out of the whole Shroom/Mycology mindset for a bit but i found a couple of spore syringes and felt determined, so i stopped procrastinating and went with the BRF method as practice (my first time actually attempting cultivation), next time will deff be trying something different, need to re-read some books and find some threads to read. But just from what i remember i feel like rye would be a lot easier/produce a MUCH higher yield, and ultimately those amazing looking fruits you see, for that reason alone i'd switch to a different method :-P.
Okay so sorry for my rambling, tomorrow morning when i FAE/mist the cakes i have 2-4 fruits that are ready for the pickin'! But i needed a super-guick refresher on how to spot aborts, wanted to remove them asap, aka not fuck my first grow up haha. [list] Will all pins in a cluster grow into full sized fruits? how long will it take to determine the abort is no longer growing? any other tips?
I appreciate all of your feedback

Not all fruits are guaranteed to reach full maturity. Generally aborts have caps that have darkened, otherwise they might just be waiting for their turn on the second flush,

I am curious about this to, as I have some pins growing out right now, one of them which still appears to be growing I think, is getting a tiny black cap. So this discoloration is definitely an abort? and another good question, is I have heard that removing one of the fruiting pins could make the rest abort, what is the danger that removing any could slow or harm the others?

If it seems like the fruit isn't gaining any sort of width and the cap isn't getting larger (no general growth either) when should i pick that abort? how long can you wait without risking rotting/the cakes general health?
I'm guessing fruiting shroomies is more one fruitbody pulled at a time than waiting for an entire terrarium to blossom at once?

They aren't necessarily aborts just because they don't grow like the others. Pins for 1. and 2. flush usually turn up at the same time, but not all of them grow. This does not mean they're aborts, they are just waiting for their turn to grow (2. flush) Aborts have dark caps, when you see one you will know. Pick them when you harvest the flush.

cool cool, so not that big of deal? Just pick them when the flush is ready?
I have a couple fruits about too separate from the veil so i was going to pick them (4-5) in about two hours or so. Or should i wait for the entire flush to harvest? Got a dehydrator so storage is very easy for me.

Yes, aborts have aborted and will do you no harm if left to wait for the flush to be harvested. I would just cut the hat off the fruits that are done before the rest, and harvest them all when most of the fruits are ready.
When I start to pick some shrooms off a flush, it seems to me it stresses the substrate and pins will abort. That's why I choose to harvest them all at the same time.
props for the dehydrator

so you're saying remove the cap of the fruit while the flush matures? might wait till i have more exp and do that, and just be really careful removing the fruits.

Yes I'm saying just cut that hat straight off! If you pick too many fruits off a flush, the rest of the flush will probably abort. Use a scissors, it doesn't take that much exp

by the looks of it i think by ton-tom morn the entire flush should be done, going to just wait till then to pick, veil separated from the most mature fruit overnight

Do aborts damage the fruits around them? I dont want to remove one with an obvious black cap because its next to a nice healthy fruit, which will prolly be ready for pickin' by tom night. Just throw the abort away then?

No they wont cause damage to the fruits around them if you pick them. Aborts are just as edible as any other fruit you would harvest so why throw them away?

I thought that when their caps turned black it meant either they are unsafe/or they're starting to rot?

No, it means neither.
Caps turning black means they are aborting, but still safe to eat.

What's the easiest way to tell if the abort is starting to rot? is it easy to spot? and if ingested what would it do? just general stomach discomfort?

you will see signs, just as you would on any other food. eating rotten food gives you stomach aches or discomfort, yes.
I've read that aborts can be way more potent, and give you one helluvaride. Never eaten enough aborts only to tell from experience though..
