agar
    #18952077 - 10/08/13 10:11 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

once i get my sterile agar plates and i add a piece of the mushrooms and i get it to be fully colonized inside i was reading you suppose to cut 2 pieces off like a pizza. my question is once you have the mycelium ready can you take it and put it in your rye grain jar? i didn't see any videos about that. just making sure that's what you suppose to do/

Yes your supposed to transfer it to a grain jar while working in a still air box. You might want to transfer to a new plate once or twice first though to make sure you have a clean culture. Also don't let it colonize all the way to the outer edge of the plate before transferring to new plates or the jar.

yep once you get a nice sphere of myc cut it into four piece and drop each one into sterilized grain jar in a SAB. i also roll the grain around so the pizza slice of myc is pressed against the glass halfway down the jar.

It doesn't make a whole lot of difference, but if you'll leave the agar wedge right on top of the grains, the mycelium will recover and take off sooner.  Shake when a hundred or so grains are covered.  That's when the mycelium has grown into an area about 1/4" or half a centimeter around the wedge.

Yes one jar can make ten and you do the G2G once the donor jar is fully colonized.

okay also i know there is lot's of ways how to transfer the mycelium into other jars. why cant you just take a cake (vermiculite) and take some and transfer it to the grain? why that doesnt work?

1 jar in theory can make a whole hell of alot more than 10 jars each single grain of a fully colonized jar can colonize a blank sterilized jar.  would just take a whole hell of along time.

but for speed i use 1 jar to make 7 jars because i use 7qts for one tub.

Beccause you cant shake cakes like you can grains.

oh its definetly possible but alot of mycologists before us have found the easiest ways to do things.

so we got it pretty easy.  :rasta:

how long is a piece of string?

there is no answer to that question.

congrats on a successful brf grow.

you will find grains to be much easier and faster.

grab 2 pcs, 500grams of pda, and a case of petri dishes and have a good time with monotubs

well can you confirm that the 2nd flush is better then the first? also i am happy to hear that. it took a little over a month for just 2 cakes to be fully colonized. i didn't want to make an incubator knowing there is a higher risk of contamination so i just let it sit and my first time trying this. i am very interested in learning more and getting the most experience i can out of this project soon to be hobby of mine. all because you guys made it possible for me giving me the valuable information that is important for growing mushrooms

I turn one jar into 14 as my pc cooks 14 jars at. Time. Sure it might take a lil longer but not by much.  Also, I tend to fill my my masters a tad more full.
