Everything looks good besides using tall half-pints instead of wide mouth half-pints.

Is that what would account for my stall in growth the past few days?  It's taken quite some time to start colon the bottoms

They look good.
If they're stalling then flip them on their lids.
Reason why? That I can't give you 'cause I barely remember..

Tall half pints stall a lot towards the bottom.  Is that your issue?  None of us can say for sure, but it could be.

Well to be honest since this is my First grow idunno if its stalling or just growing and I feel like its taking forever as far as I know I'm doing fairly well. My question would be this. Look at first picture that light area compared to the rest of the jar looks funky. Or am I just newbienervous? Lol

Well, this thread has discouraged me a bit. I could not find the wide mouth half pint jars anywhere around me for the life of me, so I settled on the same half pint jars pictured here. I have heard that some taller full pint jars will stall at the bottom due to the weight of the substrate compacting itself over time, making it hard for the myc to fully colonize. I was hoping that the smaller half pint jars would not do that, but still had suspiciouns.

I wonder if there is something that can be done to stop or reduce this? Maybe less substrate? Or allow jars to colonize laying on their side? Not sure if it will help or be detrimental to the colonizing jars so maybe someone with more experience could shed some light on this?

Dude, don't be discouraged..........be patient.  They will finish, it will take longer than you want, and if a week makes that much difference to you worry about the other jars for the next round.  :stoned:

yep they tend to become compacted at the bottom due to settling, over handling them is the leading factor to this.

to compact to colonize due to lack of GE.

the shorties colonize much faster and can and will flush just as much or more as a tally

Right on man, thanks for setting my mind at ease. A little more time isn't a big deal. I'm a pretty patient person.

In my readings on this board, I have only seen advice to flip if they are stalled out for several days, I think it was 5+ but I'm still just learning would defer to the experts on that.

Flipping them is old info. Co2 don't "fall out" of your holes because you turned it upside down.
When you first did flip it, don't flip it back because you have distorted the dry
verm barrier when you flipped them.

Tall jars do tend to stall, as has been mentioned earlier.

So how bad is it that I flipped them back right side up about three hours after initially flipping them

All depends on how bad you screwed up your dry verm barrier.
if the barrier is broken, it's lost it's purpose.
If you doubt an advice given to you, use the search function and search.
for example, flip stalling cakes, flipping cakes, etc.
try to word your search differently if you don't get any relevant info.

It actually is all there, all the info you could ever want.
I usually tick the Trusted Cultivator box, and search only for post from the recent 2 or 3 years.
A lot of old info out there, and the knowledge of mycology is constantly increased.

Much Appreciated.  I much enjoy your formal response, I'm gonna birth my cakes in about 10 days or so (3 days till100% colon?)  could you possibly point me towards good info about birthing details and abit more on "dunk and roll". I'd appreciate the help so I don't have to search for ever to find what I need. I'm in abit of a panic cause I'm so close to birthing and I'm not fully sure of what I'm doing its my first grow and I'd really like to nail it

Flipping the tall jars to help them finish colonizing on the bottom is not bad info. It works. However if you flip them you need to leave them flipped and not mess with them.

What you want to do is flip them and hit the jar onto your hand one time to help the bottom slide away from the glass. Then set them on a shelf upside down and don't mess with them until you are ready to birth them

The best thing to do is to get the right jars to start with and avoid this problem all together. You'd be surprised how much faster those short wide mouth jars will colonize. Ace hardware carries the short wide mouth half pint jars. You can also order them off Amazon
