PS3 Purchase?
    #18950877 - 10/08/13 06:13 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Would you buy a ps3? Im talking price wise.....Do you think it will drop even more AFTER the ps4 release and for the holiday season?

I really wanna play "The last of us". It seems amazing and dont wanna miss out. But part of me worries, I mean will the online community die once the ps4 hits? Will it be released on the ps4 instead?

Fuck man, just dont wanna waste money or miss a phenomenon

I bought a PS3 two years ago, and has been amazing to have. My pc doesn't have  a blu-ray reader, so it has been amazing to have that with the PS3. Also games are awesome, and The Last of Us is superb. There's also the free online play, which is good for the game Journey and others like it.

IMO, totally worth it system.

The GTA V bundle looks amazing. PRetty much paying $200 for a 500gb system/blue ray player. But will the price drop? And will The last of us have a community even once the ps4 releases or worse! Will they release it on the ps4 and everyone migrates to that one

Yeah, some games have like 9 gigs to install, and it takes awhile sometimes. I cycle through games so I always just delete the data from older games when I get too full.

the ps4 and the xone are great but
I was thinking fuck it

GTA is out and pokemon is coming out I might just wait until next year to get it

if you don't have any reason to get a ps3 I'd get a ps4 it's fucking cheap for what it does

Mgs5 is enough of a reason to buy a ps4, it'll be on ps3 but it'll be so watered down, the extra money will be worth it. (I am a mgs fanboy though, bought my ps3 solely for mgs4, but never regretted it)

The ps4 is smaller then the slim lol

They aren't ripping you off

They are making money on ps3's

The ps4's they lose money until you buy a couple games, it's even like that with the wii

To a T man.  Well said, I agree with everything.  Especially the last of us, kick ass game.  Just sold it a little while ago on CL.  Even though I beat it four times I still kinda miss it.

Idk man with the ps4 right around the corner i dont think a ps3 would be a wise investment in the long run. I imagine major titles such as Last of us / mgs 3 will be released on the ps store for dl in the future.

Never got to play the multiplayer

I get bored after 3 days with GTA but my friends having a baby and it's pretty hard to get him to play video games and god knows if he gets a ps4 so I'm goin to pick it up I guess.

Just got a Dark Souls Beta ticket too for 2 hours, hopefully they let me play the fucker in single player but they'll most likely dick me around, ghar!

I think it would be kind of pointless buying a ps3 now.

You should wait a bit and buy a ps4, maybe you can get a decent warranty with it

I don't see a point in buying a system that is going to be out of date when you can buy a much better version.

Or buy a ps3 with a month or so return policy, play the shit out of that game then return the ps3

The new xbox is kind of dope the trigers are like super touch sensitive and reactive, the control feels good and the kinect 2.0 can doo all sorts of unfulfilling but entertaining sports games.

The ps4 only does graphics better and is easier to make games for.

GTA V looks like it would really easy to get sucked in to and waste a lot of time on.  For that reason I want a PS3 and for that reason I'm not going to get one.  Last thing I need is another way to waste all my time, its hard enough for me now to not be a lazy piece of shit on a daily basis.

Keep in mind that OP said he hadn't owned a game console since the first playstation. There are shitload of games playable on a PS3 that will be totally new to him, and the console and games are much cheaper than if he was getting them when they first came out.

You won't regret buying a PS3. $200 for a 150g bundle is a steal. My slim cost about $500 last year, and the original version when I got it was about $800 for half the storage space, so I say go for it, for that price you're laughing. Of course they're probably  only going to get cheaper with the PS4 release next month, but how much cheaper than $200 can they get? Also, there's a lot of great games for PS3 and the PS4 isn't backwards compatible unless I'm mistaken.

Get a PS3 now and wait for cheaper, better models of the next gen console.

That's kind of what I was thinking.....but why are the consoles this generation so cheap compared to the original ps3 and Xbox release?

I guess I am looking at this from a couple other sides.

1st, sure there are tons of games out but I'd rather play the top of line games  I bought my xbox last year after not having a gaming system for about 5 years and I didn't even buy any older games. I wanted to play the new titles, mostly because of my 2nd point...

2nd, mostly any game I play, I like to play online with other people. Old games have pretty lame online play because everybody is playing the new new games.

yeah, op. just think of it as an investment like a computer or t.v.

Come april they'll be announcing even more games for the ps4.

It's easy to make games for compared to the ps3 and it's so much faster.

The online thing makes sense, all depends whether the OP is interested in online play though I suppose. The graphics aspect other people mentioned doesn't seem applicable to his situation though, someone whose last game console was first released almost 20 years ago is probably not a junkie for the absolute latest graphics.

We're not talking about graphics lol we're talking about fluidity and intuitiveness. Someone who played a NES is still going to notice loading screens and texture pop in's.

It appears I was mixing this up with another similar recent thread. I have no idea what you mean about intuitiveness and fluidity being properties of a console though, can you explain?

intuitiveness = when I hit confim it goes to the next screen
fluidity = no screen tearing or noticeable frames per second drops

The first one seems like it relates more to game design than console hardware, no? What you describe as fluidity is definitely a graphical consideration at least in part, that doesn't seem to jive with your "we're not talking about graphics lol" comment.

In any case though I thought I was replying to the thread where the OP said the last console he had was the original playstation, not this thread.

The ps3 cpu is consumer tech from 2006, it's not fast at all, my laptop that came out two years later is twice as fast and consumer tech this year is twice maybe triple of that.

The ps4 is nice gaming tech that happens to be very optimized. The unified 8gb of ram, that both the CPU and GPU can draw from, bypasses the cpu and gets to the gpu and the gpu is still connected to the RAM from another route. It isn't the most high tech parts, but it uses some very cost efficient techniques at the expense of sony going into loads of debt doing the R&D on it.

The ps4 definitely beat the xbone in hardware this gen even though you may not notice anything more then a higher framerate for a couple years.

You saying it relates to game designers is me saying the ps3 was hard to make games for and the ps4 isn't. Small teams of people are taken months to getn p.c. games on the thing while with other consoles it'd take like half a year and a large group of techies at the very least.
