The new xbox is kind of dope the trigers are like super touch sensitive and reactive, the control feels good and the kinect 2.0 can doo all sorts of unfulfilling but entertaining sports games.

The ps4 only does graphics better and is easier to make games for.

GTA V looks like it would really easy to get sucked in to and waste a lot of time on.  For that reason I want a PS3 and for that reason I'm not going to get one.  Last thing I need is another way to waste all my time, its hard enough for me now to not be a lazy piece of shit on a daily basis.

You should wait a bit and buy a ps4, maybe you can get a decent warranty with it

I don't see a point in buying a system that is going to be out of date when you can buy a much better version.

Or buy a ps3 with a month or so return policy, play the shit out of that game then return the ps3

Keep in mind that OP said he hadn't owned a game console since the first playstation. There are shitload of games playable on a PS3 that will be totally new to him, and the console and games are much cheaper than if he was getting them when they first came out.

You won't regret buying a PS3. $200 for a 150g bundle is a steal. My slim cost about $500 last year, and the original version when I got it was about $800 for half the storage space, so I say go for it, for that price you're laughing. Of course they're probably  only going to get cheaper with the PS4 release next month, but how much cheaper than $200 can they get? Also, there's a lot of great games for PS3 and the PS4 isn't backwards compatible unless I'm mistaken.

Get a PS3 now and wait for cheaper, better models of the next gen console.

That's kind of what I was thinking.....but why are the consoles this generation so cheap compared to the original ps3 and Xbox release?

Or just wait until PS4 does come out and if you still want a PS3 it wont be long till there is a price break to keep up with sales.

Or you can buy a used one for probably cheap as shit cause who needs both systems.  I might buy a PS3 when I get a job and actually have down time from work.

When PS4 comes out, PS3 will be cheaper.  Used ones even more so.

I guess I am looking at this from a couple other sides.

1st, sure there are tons of games out but I'd rather play the top of line games  I bought my xbox last year after not having a gaming system for about 5 years and I didn't even buy any older games. I wanted to play the new titles, mostly because of my 2nd point...

2nd, mostly any game I play, I like to play online with other people. Old games have pretty lame online play because everybody is playing the new new games.

yeah, op. just think of it as an investment like a computer or t.v.

Come april they'll be announcing even more games for the ps4.

It's easy to make games for compared to the ps3 and it's so much faster.

The online thing makes sense, all depends whether the OP is interested in online play though I suppose. The graphics aspect other people mentioned doesn't seem applicable to his situation though, someone whose last game console was first released almost 20 years ago is probably not a junkie for the absolute latest graphics.

We're not talking about graphics lol we're talking about fluidity and intuitiveness. Someone who played a NES is still going to notice loading screens and texture pop in's.

It appears I was mixing this up with another similar recent thread. I have no idea what you mean about intuitiveness and fluidity being properties of a console though, can you explain?

intuitiveness = when I hit confim it goes to the next screen
fluidity = no screen tearing or noticeable frames per second drops
