So I got applauded in class today for explaining physical addiction. It was flattering but I felt a little singled out in class since I seemed to be the only one with an interest in the topic Of course when cannabis came up everyone was talking.
do you speak up in class when drugs are discussed, or do you bite your tongue?
on my phone, so apologies for the succint and underpunctuated post.

I gave my senior seminar on entheogenic drug therapy. So you could say I am a bit outspoken about most drugs and drug policy when it was addressed.

i only sit in on classes now but yeah i try to talk. i always end up singling myself out too whatever tho it's good to get your ideas out there, and oftentimes professors are like the only people who can even hold down a conversation like that so...

"Physical addiction" is a horribly inaccurate, and mis-used term. You get "physical dependence" (as evident from a withdrawal syndrome) from a variety of non-addicting substances.

I think it's funny when people talk about how certain drugs make you depressed because they're "depressants" lol
Just because a drug is a depressant doesn't mean it directly makes you depressed, if that was the case then why would anybody use it? Slowing down your CNS is not neccessarily synonymous with making you sad

I have to bite my tongue a lot because I'm polite and wait my turn to speak, where people usually take the discussion wildly off topic and what I had to say wouldn't make sense any more... Still though, what else is there to do in class? I talk to these kids all the time who whine about how boring class is, when if they sat up and bullshitted with us instead of playing candy crush on their phones they might get something out of it.

God I hate that game Candy crush. Had to block invites from it because I was getting so many
I typically bite my tongue as well, but this professor is fairly accepting of both views (for and against drugs).

I did a seminar on Cathinone derivatives once. It was dry and molec bio/ o chem heavy. It was not very fun to put together and the audience did not seem very interested. I did not make any jokes, but the nature of the talk would have made jokes easy. I should have made a joke.
If you are interested in drugs of abuse, most research universities have at least a few labs that work with these types topics. In addition there are often labs that work drug development for medical applications. Lots of opportunity to make a career out of your pharma interests if you go to graduate school.

It's funny that you mention this, because my psych teacher showed us an awful and misinformed video about psychoactive drugs yesterday. I explained the pro's of dropping LSD to the class, and several people approached me after class wanting to know more. Spreading the love.

At work I often have to bite my tongue due to me wanting to keep my job. But man its hard sometimes when people talk down pot like its the devils weed and makes you a douchebag sterotype

I just found out yesterday, that apparently at least four other students in my class smoke pot, and that(plus myself) makes a nice 20% of our whole class..
We were talking about vacations etc and suddenly the topic turned into Amsterdam, and who's been there for how long etc. and after that I've made a lot of jokes about amps/pot and people were laughing and jumping in&telling their own stories/jokes
Looks like we're going to get along just fine for the next 1,5 years
